Silly stuff from before I jacked in

These are a few silly things from when I was over there. I found the files yesterday. The quality is poor.

I thought I had seen snow before. This was in Denmark in 2004.

A Mack Truck in the juice terminal in Gent. I was impressed at the time. No, it had nothing to do with my coming here.

A Kenworth T800 in a tankwash in Bremen. That’s more like it!

They drove this train onto the ferry at Rodby, in Denmark, and drove it off at Puttgarten in Germany. Now that’s commuting! :open_mouth:

Snowblower in Germany. Private houses have things like this over here to clear their driveways. Madness!

The last truck I bought. Cost £3000 and had all the toys available. This was on a loading bay in Spain.

And this was the road into that factory.

On board the ferry to somewhere exotic. Holland I think.

Somewhere truly exotic!!

nice selection of photos thanks for posting

Nice pics Bob, thank you. Curious as to the Scottish border sign !! Is it Gretna hard shoulder your sitting in , or the east coast ■■ Bye the way, me brother in law is trucking in Canada, out of a place called Brockeville. Take care.

Good snaps,Bob. If enough drivers posted their pics on here we would find out that we are all related to each other…

Good stuff Bob. But I confess that when I saw the title I was hoping for some old West Country stuff to remind me of my happy days on Thompson of Moretonhampsted - real work before I got wooed away to all that flares and clogs Continental business

I’ll see what I can do. When were you at Thompsons? I was there for a time. myself. Good firm. When I had my Renaults they were always there to help out, and I subbed a bit for them with the tanks. I bought a Manager from them. Ran it with a tank for quite a while. Really good truck. Paid £1250 for it, used it for almost a year then sold it for £1700.

Bob. I was there 70 to 73 just when they moved to Station Road. The fleet was mostly AEC Mandator - including one very unreliable V8 that Titch Langdon drove - and 3 H reg Scania 110’s. I did Glasgow pretty much every Sunday and eventually got my hands on one of the 110’s. Boy! Was I proud of that motor!

I went back for a guest appearance, early 80’s I guess, when Robert wanted to have a look at Continental work and I did their first trip - all the way to Belgium!

Really good steady firm that have lasted the pace.

1,250 quid? Robert didn’t rob you for that one then!

David

hey guys, you are all commenting on thompsons my old pops is still working there, you probably know him its terry hookway? he worked there for several years then left and is know back for more punishment, think hes been back about 3/4 years ish/…

heyup123 I see where you’re from. My whole family lives down in Bude…

Heyup. Give Terry my best, will you. That man really knows how to look after a truck. Ask Jeff Moore or Jof who moved to Canada and you will find BTDs identity. Say Hi to them for me and tell them I will give a call soon.

Harry, I’m a Camelford boy. Nuff said.

David. They still had one of the Scanias there when I was there. I know they didn’t overcharge me. They picked out a good one. All alloy wheels, 850000 kms, alloy tank and in good nick. I could always ask for advice from them. I guess that’s why they have been around so long. They are, generally speaking, gentlemen.
Robert has retired, last I heard. There aren’t many firms y respect over there, but they are one.
Haven’t heard anything of Titch for a while. His is a big firm in its own right, now. I did hear that his son, Steve, got banned from Asda, Dratford, for an altercation involving the security guard exiting the hut through the window.

bobthedog will mention it later to the old fella. know what you mean about looking after his gear.

Yeah ,Bob ,my two nephews are Dudes from Bude…They have been surfing all round the globe. They are both living in Bristol these days…

I remember when Terry had his door creased on his F reg G290. He applied polish nearly every day to stop it from rusting.
Ask him if he remembers him, me, Booter Baker and, I think, Paul, stopping to pick strawberries on the way back from Melton Mowbray. We all had a full day to kill, and got paid the hours for the PYO.

There were a handful of drivers there that I got along with really well.

yeh i remember that wasnt it some one with a fork lift truck who spiked the door? think i got a picture somewhere. will tell him you aked after him.

I think it was. I know he got upset about it, but I recall he really got upset with the bloke who broke his mirror. I think the cab jacking bar came into play then.

Well if Steve the son is in any way related to Titch - and I dare say he is - and has inherited his Daddies good temper and sweet disposition then that probably isn’t the first security guard and it certainly won’t be the last. I had heard about that actually because I get the news from Derek Greenaway at Cannon Commercials who keeps me up to speed on whats happening in the West Country.

Yes Robert is retired now and of course Billy Tooth is the Transport Manager now isn’t he? Me and Launzo Warren took a very young Billy on his first trip to London of a Sunday and we took him to that Pub in the one-way system at New Cross and fed him, lock, stock and barrel to that Cockney comedian they have there who use to say 'kin hell. He had some fun with Billy!

Take care, David

Well Bob, you`ve had long enough to think me old son. East or west.

I think it was Gretna. I was trying to remember and I think it was december 23rd on my way North with an urgent load of cardboard.

Langdons used to throw snippets of work my way, usually when I was ■■■■■■■ with something else. Ask your mate at Cannon if little Jeff is still there. He was another of Thompsons star Mekaniks.
