dont forget this sat is the start of the driving bans on saturday coming into force esp in germany france and italy
Good advice Neil and you can down load a map of the roads affected in Germany from this thread.
don’t i just know it, it’s like whacky races but with caravans and campers, this year there is a new competition out there, how high can you stack your suitcases on the roof of your car without them being blown off at 80kph.
already some of the service areas (especially in luxembourg) have started to section off some of the truck parking spaces for caravanners and campers.
you would have thought that a better way would have been to charge everyone wanting to park for the night and issue them with a food voucher for the total value of the charge.
i parked in the new caravan bays (truck bays for 10 months of the year) next to a number of caravanners and went to the restaraunt to eat, the campers were sitting in the vans eating what they had cooked, no money there for the service area owners, i just can’t understand why they make them so welcome and at a cost to us professionals on the road.
Ere ang on a minnit neil…some of us truckers are motorhomers and caravanners too…i have a motorhome and travel abroad each year, and on the 19th july i am en route to bulgaria via luxembourg, germany, austria, hungary, romania, and b.g. its a journey i have made many times not only as a holiday maker but a trucker too, i have no problems with these vehicles whether on the road or in the services…but i do not overnight in the services…1. it is dangerous…2. it is noisy…3. and i as a professional driver realise that workers need their rest and i for one do not wish to take a space that a trucker could use…well for overnighting anyway…but it is a very busy place in the summer months and i too have been moved on in my truck to make room for a caravan…and i have had caravans moved in order that i may park my truck…that was in germany…i always use campsites and i dont understand why the others dont use them…there are all the facilities you could want, but i guess its the 15 euros a night that bothers them…
have a nice day
guys please i wasnt on about caravans i was on about the ban on trucks on saturdays between certain hours.
i have nothing against caravaners
oooooooohhhhhhhh you`ve done it now neil
… too late to backpedal
But he has the ability to backpedal if he wants, unlike most caravan drivers who seem incapable of going backwards.

LOL
Heading south through France yeaterday was murder
Dutchmen with overloaded caravans
Morrocans in convoy with old Transits and Peugeot J5´s and you always seem to come up behind them in the no overtaking for trucks sections
I’m sure that there is grounds for a new computer game, “English tourist dodging in France!”
One of our driver’s pulled up late in the evening this week at a French motorway services only to find some of the parking bays taken up by four Dutch caravans.
So he politely asked them to move over to the area reserved for caravans as he wanted to park for the night, and they were parked in the last available bays in the truck park.
They told him in no uncertain terms that they were also parked for the night and refused to move.
So he called the police, and when they arrived he explained to them what was going on and that he was out of hours and needed to park.
The police told the caravaners in no uncertain terms to move or get towed away.
They moved.
