Silly Round Trip

If you were offered silly money with an 08-00 start, would you take a round trip of 45 mins each way (the fuel’s not a problem, I’m on a thrifty motorcyle). Just undecided, but leaning towoards ASDA’s work on Magna Park for £17.50 per hour on the Saturday :open_mouth:. I dread to think what they’re paying on the Sunday :unamused::shock::wink:. I’ve previousley said I won’t go up their, which is one of the reasons I’m dubious (up their every five mins springs to mind :unamused:). I could do with the cash though, so I might make it plain the rates do the job justoce

Might have a look at the weather for the weekend & clock it tomorrow on the bike .

Nothin wrong with going for the money, thats the reason we have a job isn’t it? We drive trucks for preference, but a job is to earn money.

I did consider getting a caravanette, thought i could drive it to a more profitable area of the country, and live out of it during the week, well i’m away anyhow all week, and drive it home at the week end. But i thought it was may be a hair brain scheme, but i’m not so sure now

I used to drive from Melton to Magna Park and it wasn’t for that much money!!

…although I did it in the car. Wouldn’t have fancied it on the motorbike though!

When I did some casual work for Reed Bordall (Boroughbridge) there was a full timer there who came down from Scotland for his 6 days on and went back for his 2-off. Just round the corner from the yard he rented a (quite horrible!) caravan for a tener a week which is where he stayed on the odd occaision he wasback in the yard.

I’d say your idea isn’t such a bad one if that’s what you need to do to find the work, especially in your own motorhome with your own comforts.

I do a 50 minute trip to work with start times as early as 4am. :open_mouth:

In areas like this 45 minutes for an agency job is fairly normal & for a lot less than you are being offered.

I could take 45 minutes to get into work for 4am starts… But that’s on a bike when I’m a bit unfit  Wakes me up though for the drive

I have done agency work where they’ve wanted to me to drive an hour away for £5 an hour !?! I kid you not!

Hmm :unamused:

I’m talking out my arse :unamused:. I’ve just clocked it on the bike. 28 miles each way, 25 mins. I’ll have it for definate - although it’s probably too late to do anything about it now :unamused:  .

Cheers

Ian.

there`s a caravette parked in a layby near rugby truckstop constantly… old renault it is. the money there paying around that area its got to be worth considering

I think a narrowboat would be ideal, their’s a canal runs right round the back of Crick .

As long as they dont need you at another depot in a hurry

Good Plan though. I was trying to buy a narrow boat when I worked in Funny Compton

I wouldn’t need to clear that much once I’d bought it either, about 200 quid a month. I can also move around a bit in the week so I don’t have to stay in a marina. Having said that, their’s quite a few companies up their, including Asda and Wincanton, so I’m going to start making 'phone calls and puttin CV’s in .

That’s actually very common in the US, especially with company drivers who live in certain places that don’t have much traffic going through. When I used to work for JB Hunt, there were always at least half a dozen motorhomes in the parking lot at the Kansas City terminal. Most of them were from North or South Dakota.
