Hi, well I got my dvla theory guide book, found out my provisional entitlement is ok till I am 45 (42at moment). Couple weeks reading and get my theory booked, then assement drive. spoke to a really helpful lady at Peter smythe training who explained some questions I had, and hope to train with them.
The question I have is can I drive at weekends after working 40 hours in my job as vehicle technician?

Generally you can drive for one day every other weekend and on the weeks where you do that all the other work in that week must be officially recorded - using digipaper or separate analogue cards for each day worked with name date start and finish time will suffice
When did you take the D4 medical?
Thanks Rog, I took my medical and theory about 5 years ago, I have the provisonal entitlement till 2018 when I hit 45. But the theory I belive only last two years has I did not take training any further than an assement drive.

If you work Monday to Friday it’s likely that you’ll only be able to legally drive in-scope of EU regulations one shift every second weekend, but without knowing your finish time on Friday and your start time on Monday it’s impossible to say for certain.

Correct - theory valid for only 2 years
Taking D4 medical at age 45 will continue provisional and/or full entitlements
Passing the test is only the first step of training, gaining driving experience is where the real learning begins.
My experience as a newly qualified part-time C+E driver doing two or three days per week (by going part-time in my other job) is that it is hard going and takes a long time for things to settle in. You may find that one shift a fortnight just isn’t enough to get the knowledge to bed in, and every time you do another shift is like starting again. You may need to do several shifts in close succession to build your knowledge, get a better feel and build some basic instincts.
Don’t let that put you off, though. Go ahead and get your full licence, then take it from there. That will be the tricky bit out of the way and you’ll have plenty of time to plan your options. Good luck!
BTW - there are no silly questions on this forum
