A few months I posed the question what do these guys who drive for silent night have in those massive sleeper cabs and no one really knew… well I am going to find out tomorrow as I will be double manning a silent night truck for the rest of the week, so I will let you know. I still think it will be a disco or tennis court.

I am just back and not walking a bit like John Wayne.
Well I had a good look around upstairs and can report its big up there. This was an old one and I am told the newer trucks are a bit more well appointed, but whats up there was a full sized single bed raised up on some storage compartments to form a sofa, space in front of the hatch for storages and room for a TV or suchlike, with the hatch closed it was a fair old bedsit. A pipe from the night heater feeds up there, but the controls were downstairs 
Looking at the space up there I am sure you could go a long way to improving the use.
The regular driver gets all this space, I got to sleep downstairs in the normal sleeper part (W reg Daf) but as all the bags were upstairs it was not to bad at all and as it was a 2 man crew, when the hatch closed for the night you did feel you got your own space to yourself. We parked in front of a truck with a 2 man crew in a normal sleeper and watched then sorting all the bags out before squeezing into their bunks. Our arrangement does work well for double manning.
For the rest of it, 96 deliveries of beds to private houses in an 18 tonner over 3 and bit days as well as the run down with box on a drag which was dumped in Banbury waiting for us to empty the first bah bah bah. The regular driver parks in the town were the next drop is, so we did a smelly industrial site in Uxbridge, Wetherspoons 1 mile away for Steak night, a carpark in High Wycombe, Weatherspoons half a mile away, Steak and Ale Pie, and believe it or not someone’s house in Oxford were Wetherspoons was just around the corner and enjoyed Curry Night.
In the time away I learnt a lot about moving beds into difficult places, learnt to really read a map, learnt how to shower with Bay Wet Wipes. Things yet to learn is how to complete returns notes while driving in high winds while talking to the wife on a mobile, that appears to be a very high art form for which I am not worthy. Away I seemed to do quite well and the regular guy reckons its a steady number, for me I was away from the wife for 3 nights and grew a beard, not the mention the smell. I will decline the next offer from them and take my hat off to you good people who camp away all week in this country, its not like this in Europe.
Anyway off to Denmark again in 2 weeks for 2 months, so I don’t have to.

NO… but some of the king sized beds we were delivering looked quite nice, not sure how I would slide it up that small hole though
