Signed delivery papers

yesterday I had a delivery to waitrose in Bracknell, I turned up and went to the chilled goods in entrance as my load was chilled. I got to the gate house in the middle of the yard and told to give him paperwork and back on to bay then go back to gatehouse and hand over keys. so far all sounds good. by time I got back to truck im already on a red n can feel im being unloaded. within 15 mins I was given a green so I went back to gatehouse to collect keys and paperwork or so I thought. I got keys back but sorry we don’t signed paperwork we don’t check your stuff till later tonight then we will send paperwork with another driver later. hmmm ok iv never heard of this before as this was my 1st time delivering to here. I rang the office but as it was bank holiday no real manager was there. I got told its ok but ask them to sign my pda to say I had been there and they would forward paperwork. I asked rent a cop in gatehouse sorry I don’t signed for it. hmmm ok can I have your name so I can put it in, answer I got was NO I don’t give my name out. what a ■■■■. utter muppit, I told him I was new here and didn’t know how things worked here but I need something as proof I have been. he point blank refused his name. I was now getting pi55ed off so I took my phone out and took a photo of him. this completely got him going n then said he was calling the police I laughed so hard I had tears forming. I jumped back in my truck and drove off.

can anyone tell me if they have had this or what would they have done.

i would have signed the pda myself with a made up name. cba messing round with people like that, the amount of mickey mouses that sign my paper work on a weekly basis is proof it means eff all. that mickey mouse fella really gets around.

I don’t know about Waitrose but it’s quite common at some places, it’s commonly referred to as drop and run.

It’s common for Supermarket RDCs to check the load while you wait, if your company have agreed to drop and run the RDC will let you go as soon as the goods are unloaded then check them later and send the paperwork with another driver, it saves the drivers having to wait while they check the load.

As far as the security bloke is concerned, it wouldn’t have hurt him to give you his name but to be honest I fail to see what good having his name would do, if you wanted to take pictures it would have made more sense to take a picture of the lorry at the depot rather than annoying the bloke taking his picture while on private property.

As far as what I would have done is concerned, after checking with the office that it was OK to leave the goods without the paperwork being singed I’d have thought myself lucky that I didn’t need to hang around for hours while the load was checked, and I’d have been out of there

Yeah I’ve just signed it myself before and put “load unchecked”, tell the barrier technician if there is any comeback then you will just say he wrote it.

Put in paperwork signature refused also refused to give a name to be identified by if your vehicle is tracked which I’m assuming it is as are most don’t worry about it tracker will show you have been and taking a photo of the clown will also back up your story. As for you worrying about getting paid for your load unless your an owner driver don’t worry about it it ain’t your problem that’s what management and tms are supposed to sort

thanks guys I had a call from work saying waitrose had called them. my manager was laughing n said things would be ok. he never realised id also taken a photo of the clown but told me to delete it  you don’t half meet some strange power tripping people out there. if it was his load I was dropping off n when asked who signed for it I put refused to sign how would he feel. ill have to remember to smile more if I get sent there again :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Most waitrose depots are the same, expect never to see your paperwork again once handed in, as said, they do normally save it up and give it to a driver from the same company, personally i think its a great idea, it cut down the waiting time, and gets you away a lot quicker, fair comments to the poster if its a first time, and i cant see how they can give it to another driver if they hardly ever go there, if he was a subby for a regular, then paperwork will follow.

When I was with Blake’s, we did this at Asda Dartford. Each day, there would be up to ten trailers going in. The last driver would have his notes in a wallet and he had to wait. Then he would get any returns loaded and all the paperwork from the day. It was a pretty good system, so long as Blake’s didn’t foul things up.

As long as it got me gone quicker no paperwork would be a good call but as OP said odd on first time there.
Used to tip chilled food into Wolverhampton racecourse notes got signed by Mr C.lion mr C.horse and mr D.duck and Mrs F.linstone on many occasions lol.

They were doing drop and go over a decade ago at RDCs so its been around a while. Bit unnerving the first time at a new drop.
