does anyone agree with me that with all the electronics in cars and trucks today that sidelights could be done away with unless the engine is off many times you see idiots on the road and they disappear when something is behind them with headligghts on.

Couldn’t agree more, sidelight should be for parking only and the use of them for driving should be outlawed.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea as well, if headlamp alignment was twice yearly, the amount of vehicles, large and small, whose headlights are so badly aligned is unbelievable.
Most vehicles here have daylight running headlights so you can’t run on sidelights.
