Hi can a work place accident be counted counted a sick days off.I ask because I scratched my eyeball at work and was off for 3 shifts and they now want to monitor my attendance for 3 months, is this right

i twisted my ankle in work one night because i was in the yard loading the wagons and was dark and took a 4 days off but becuase i didnt sign the accident book ect the done the same to me… they told me i shouldnt have been in the yard because i was ment to be on another job for that shift… so i had 4 unotharised abbsances even tho i phoned in sick every day
A driver I no works nights and a few months back he fell down a manhole while delivering to somewhere.The company he works for a fighting about paying his wages while he was off even though on the night he managed to drive the truck back with severely bruised foot,shin and bruised ribs.They are saying if he couldn’t see where he was walking he should have used a torch and this company is one of the big ones, 
My accident has been logged but they tried not to acknowledge it, the union is involved now and there saying its not correct the way there treating the days off as normal sick days
