top quote i quite agree. i was listening to the radio on fri and was surprised by the attacks on them by people saying stuff them theve had to good. people were saying they have been laid off in variuos jobs and have had minimum reduncy so why should they get special treatment.
also im sorry to say anyone working in the steel and automotive industry should watch their backs cos their jobs arent safe and im sorry to say that but its true they should be prepared for the worst.

Agree, they should have realised their wages were exceptionally good and could not last forever. I have sympathy with people that are made reduntant (it happened to me) but most people only get the legal minimum amount of money.
I’ve been made redundant 3 times now, each time I only got the legal minimum (last time I got nothing as I had only been there 1 year). Why should Rover workers be treated differently - apart from political considerations.
Calv
yeah and what does the goverment do,plough’s in thousands off pounds to help them,( tax payers money ) just because the election is coming up.
There was an article in my local paper containing an interview with an ex Rover employee who quoted “How can I pay my mortgage on £5.50 / hour?” Why not some truck drivers are earning not much more than that . It highlights the pitiful rate of pay in the transport industry.

im sure he will manger like the rest of us do!!! the condesending ■■■■■
I have no problem with the workers of Rover but lets face facts, the company is producing crap cars that noone wants at prices people dont want to pay. when people can buy better and more for their money elsewhere, is it really any wonder they have gone ■■■■ up? Its time we stopped ploughing millions of taxpayers money into these companies and let them survive in business, not be propped up by the state.
I agree with the above sentiments. but going off on a tangent, i think that the directors pulled a fast one. 1st they flog the rights to build the cars to the chinese, then the chinese back out sending the the company over the edge, 2nd they time it to happen in the first week of the new pension protection fund starting, which will deflect some of the fire away from them, 3rd i wonder who will buy a second hand production line going cheap
I think that you lads & lasses on boxes will be making regular trips to longbridge in the near future,
IMHO, the real losers in all of this are the poor sods who bought a Rover & are now left with a car that is not only going down in price faster than fuel is going up, but also with no real support when things go wrong & all because they wanted to buy British.
As to the workers, welcome to the world the rest of us live in.
Well by my reckoning a brand new 05 Plate Rover 75 in about 12 months time should be being knocked out at about 1000 on the auctions. Lovely jubbly, I’ll have one of those thanks. Who said nothing good comes out of all those brummies getting laid off.
