shunters

i wouldnt worry about tachos etc on shunting, i did shunting for tesco for a while, never kept an eye on hours etc, i did have plenty of breaks though, never left the confinds of tescos yard either.

‘…Well, now I’m not for shunting good enough, and no problem with that anymore…’

Going to work now, am I - but not to shunt since my company can afford me not

Wheel Nut:
How about the time taken to get back to the depot in the car Simon, or the time taken in a morning to go to work. How about the operators licence and the declaration about where the trucks are based overnight, how about the neighbours objections?

Digitacho, - parked up for the night in UK, started work in the morning in UK.
What car driving? What parking problems?
Left in a Depot for overnight loading, comes under their neighbourhood care!
You don’t just park up and leave a truck to be loaded overnight, in your absence, without getting authorisation first. There is probably already an agreement in place, so drivers don’t have to request authorisation on an individual basis.

Simon:
‘…I THINK, if the on-road journey is within 50km range of the depot then UK domestic rules can apply, instead of EU rules…’

So:

a) How come ‘…km…’ within Imperially bound UK?

Well you see, I started that answer with the words ‘I think’, which I capitalised and underlined.
I used those words to convey that I hadn’t looked it up but was going by memory, therefore I’m not 100% sure that I’m absolutely correct.
It is quite possible, if not probable, that the rules say 30 MILES. However, as I work in Europe where they use km and my tacho is calibrated in km and I’m used to thinking in km, I’ve already converted 30 miles to 50km and used that designation from habit.

It’s also quite possible that this requirement for operating under UK domestic rules has been changed.
If someone thought they could operate under UK domestic rules, I would expect them to check on those rules themselves. To ensure that they knew those rules and to be able to comply with them.
