Shropshire Truck Show only moved from Oswestry’s Park Hall to the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury this year, after organisers decided they needed more space.
But residents living near the Berwick Road site complained about the noise from the huge trucks following the event in May and officials today said they had “reluctantly agreed” that the venue was not suitable.
Shropshire and West Midland Agricultural Society has been issued with a noise abatement notice on the back of complaints by residents, which requires a noise management plan for every event taking place.
Officials said they had identified some third-party events run by outside operators as a “problem”.
Ryan Jervis, vice chairman of the trustees, said: “The Truck Show’s organisers are desperate to return to the showground next year and we would have been very keen for them to return.
“However, despite their reassurances concerning noise etcetera, the trustees have reluctantly agreed that our residential venue is unsuitable.
“It is shame because the truck show was very popular, lucrative for us and good for the local economy.
“The trustees considered all of these things and listened to the organisers promise to do everything possible to keep the noise down.
“But our noise abatement order and the potential of significant fines in the event of an issue means we can’t take the chance.”
Jason Lunn from truck show organisers Independent Event Management insisted talks were ongoing over the show’s future.
He said: “We are still in negotiations with the venue but the council is happy and as far as we’re concerned the show will continue in Shrewsbury.”
But Mr Jervis said as far as the trustees were concerned, the negotiations had gone as far as they could.
Sue Clarke, hirings secretary at Park Hall, said truck show officials had contacted the Oswestry venue several weeks ago but they could not accommodate the event on the day IEM wanted.
