Shropshire road blocked after 45ft lorry gets jammed following sat nav

A busy road was blocked after a lorry became jammed between a pub and a cafe as it followed a sat nav.

The lorry which got stuck between two buildings in Market Drayton

The driver, who was following his sat nav to the Muller factory in Market Drayton, had been directed down Shrewsbury Road and around a sharp bend into Buntingsdale Road, becoming stuck between two buildings at the turning.

Mark King, landlord of the King’s Head pub, watched as the lorry driver got himself into the precarious position at about 9am yesterday.

Mr King said: "I was in my garden having a coffee when I saw the lorry trying to turn.

"It was a 45 foot wagon and the driver tried to take the corner and in the end became totally stuck.

"We were shouting at the driver to stop but I don’t think he spoke very good English.

“I had to call the police because he had blocked the road, and he was there for about 30 minutes or so while they worked to unblock him.”

Fence panels had to be removed from the King’s Head’s beer garden at because the lorry had become wedged right against it and traffic built up in the area while police set to work helping the driver get out.

Mr King has been at the pub for the last 16 months and says this is the first time a lorry has got stuck there.

“We do see a lot of trucks trying to turn down here and it is very tight, really too tight for that kind of vehicle,” he said.

"Ideally we could do with stopping lorries turning down here, but I’m not sure how we can do that.

“On saying that this is the first time I have seen a lorry get wedged here, and well that’s sat navs for you.”

Gill Smith, who owns Gill’s Pudding’s cafe on the other side of the road, said: "Sat nav was certainly no help to this driver looking for Mullers.

"I wasn’t here when it first happened but someone told me and I came dashing over.

"The front of the shop here is glass fronted and he must have only been about three inches away from that, it was very close. We were lucky really.

“We do get articulated lorries coming down here, but to be honest they usually don’t try and turn in like this chap did.”

The lorry was from French logistics company Transalliance, which runs transport all over Europe.

I miss the old days before digital cameras when you could ■■■■ up and get away with it. :stuck_out_tongue:

The buck stops with you and your (if you have any) common sense. If the satnav points you down a place that is obviously too small for you then don’t go down it! Also, if he was using a truck satnav surely it wouldn’t of taken him round that bend?

I suspect the satnav could process data faster than the driver!
Oh, did I call him/her a driver!

Was following a foriegn truck today on the way to Loughborough. Roundabout was 7.5 ton limit straight on and right turn to avoid it. He went straight on amd through the limit. There was no except for access/ loading etc.

Takes the word ■■■■ nav to a whole new level :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

He has his door half open, if he had his eyes open, he would have seen that he couldn’t take an artic down that road. :unamused:

Wonder what sat nag he’s using… tom-tom …garmin…

We deliver to a shop up that road and yes it’s definitely easier coming from the town end haha
Daft thing is he must he drove straight past Cullina from the way he has come and the big sign on the roundabout that says goods in is also a dead giveaway!

Type in place of Market Drayton and then look for shrewsbury road & Buntingsdale road junction… then you’ll see why this knob jockey got hit truck stuck…

Hes come down Shrewsbury road, heading to the town centre then tried to swing a right and then opps

I get round that corner quite easily…with my rear steer trailer  :sunglasses:

“Had bigger than that down here before driver”

Coming from the right way it’s perfectly fine,he should have realised and gone to turn round and come back…

Streetview can be deceptive but I’m going to call doable.

From the media anyone would think before sat-nav no lorry driver ever took a wrong turn or cut in too tight.

FarnboroughBoy would have ■■■■■■ round there with his eyes closed -no problem!
