Showman Moans at Truck Photographer

I was walking through a local fairground at the weekend, taking the odd pic of some of the lorries when a “showie” moaned at another more professional looking photographer for taking photos. From what I could understand, it was along the lines of “if you all went on the rides instead of just looking at the ****ing lorries we might make some money…” Photographer was quite quick with “drop your prices and give a ride that lasts 2 minutes” and walked off quickly.
I think photographer was right; "fun"fairs are a rip off. I only walk through and look at their wagons, they can keep their £4 for 2 minutes ta very much…

Can’t beat a go on the dodgems and some candy floss did the money lol

Just a thought.

4 Quid for 2 minutes - a bit expensive BUT I wonder what the photographer would say if the Fun Fairs went out of business because everyone stopped or would not pay the 4 Quid ■■?

Where would all the old trucks go he wanted to photograph ■■?

Another thought - Our Eastern European friends bring their Fun Fairs over to the UK and charge only 2 quid for 2 minutes.

Result is the UK Fun Fair is out of business and all the folks working there are out of work because all the East Europeans have under cut the UK fairs.

Result = no more old UK trucks to photograph.

Hang on, this sounds familiar … !!!

If you think how much a ride costs to buy run transport plus wages it takes a lot of 4 quids to pay for it so not bad value really

Fairground people, similar to ■■■■■■ but at least there’s a mutual agreement that you both know your being ripped off

nothing to do with ■■■■■■ and as for the ride costs blame the local council who charge massive ground rents

I know a Oxford fairground family very well and I can tell you they are not ■■■■■■ . :open_mouth:

Yes, plus of course they need to earn a whole year’s income from a short Summer season, Carter’s steam Fair comes around once a year and while it isn’t cheap, I always take the kids and think it reasonable value for money.

I attend a lot of steam fairs/rallies (as an exhibitor) and rarely go near the actual fairground, however at Lincoln this year I did go to see the Wall of Death and have to admit that for £2 it was well worth the money. About ten minutes of entertainment, they did ask for a donation at the end (something to do with insurance issues) and folk threw coins down into the “well” but all in it was good value. What I do notice though is that fairs now seem to have lorries more modern than the ones that I drove 9 years ago!

Pete.

Went to see it at Truckfest was one of the highlights of the weekend

I’ve said that to more than a few women over the years.

I find the best thing about the fun fair is those boil in the bag fish you can win great for the old dashboard diner

When I was about 17 or 18 I got my end away with a girl who worked on the coconut shy stall at a fun fair.
Ended up with a dose of crabs but I suppose it made a change from one of those half dead gold fish

Had one near me the other week, charged £5.00 for an afternoon ticket and £7.50 for an evening , as many rides as you wanted. Seemed good value to me!
