Dunno but it pisses me off when they go hooning past in reduced speed limits like they’re untouchable

Wow I momentarily beat the system :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::+1:

Screenshot this as proof. The auto sensor is on the ■■■■■■■ or something ATM

I think there’s a good case to be made for drivers working permanently in the UK to be able to speak and read English proficiently, but expecting drivers delivering from across the channel to speak and read English well could push up costs and could possibly even mean shortages in the shops at times.

It’s why we have pictograms innit?

I’ve made deliveries throughout Europe with only a smattering of the language of whatever country I’ve been delivering to. It was probably only useful if I was ordering a beer and repeating the order, so no, I don’t think that being able to speak English is essential if you are foreign based and merely delivering/ collecting here. Of course speaking the language would probably make your life easier.

However I think that living and working in another country should really require an at least basic understanding of the host countries language (I also include ignorant expat Brits who live on the Costas etc and make no attempt to learn the language and ridiculously have the nerve to criticise foreigners who live in Britain who don’t speak English).

Well I’ve worked for the Dutch and the Belgians and I could neither speak Dutch nor Flemish.

Daft idea …..I agree with all Maoster says about it so I needn’t repeat it all.

That is why visa to stay IE spouse, work etc toUK have to meet basic english, depending on the visa, my wife has to pass A1 life skill to get her spouse visa. basic reading and listening. Then changes again in 2 years. workers have different level which i agree with, but before brexit anyone from EU countries could work in UK with no English.

And I did the same as you, reading the pictures and minimum french , german spanish. But glad the Dutch speak good English, i could never grasp the basics. along with Italian.

I can order a beer a meal,.ask (some) directions and what time the ferry leaves ….in French.

And being a complete flash smooth $$$$$ tell a girl she is beautiful….even if she isn’t.:joy:

Also my Mrs told me a couple of Dutch swear words but I have NEVER as long as I have known her use any English ones .:joy:

My French is basic school stuff ….got a CSE in it.:joy:

Isn’t amazing whilst in the throes of passion..our non english speaking wifes speak fluent english???

I know a joke about somebody’s wife in bed shouting for ‘‘Ron Howle’’ …..but I’m too polite to repeat…or explain it.:joy::joy:

A very common thread of conversation on American drivers’ sites, especially those in border states like Texas.

But overdone in my opinion. When a driver ran out of road and killed several car drivers in a pile up the only thing that exercised many drivers was the bloke’s complete lack of English. As if that had anything to do with his poor driving skills.

I think he knew what these signs on the Florida turnpike mean but couldn’t be bothered to continue to the next exit.

Does my head in at hospital having doctors / consultants who I haven’t a clue what there saying , having to ask every time for someone who can speak English to come & explain it to me , I’ve now got to the stage of saying get me a interpreter every time

So yes foreign drivers should be able to speak English ( we keep getting told every wants to come to this country because of the language don’t we !!! ) , this also applies to jocks / geordies as well as I struggle to make head nor tail half the time of what there on about
