If I don’t know what to do I’d always do nothing and in your case I’d stay put. Being near home is worth it, a 25 mile commute isn’t the end of the earth it’s too far.
Your job has good and bad, the new one almost certainly will have too. So I vote to stay.
This. Because of where I live most jobs are 25-30 mile each way commute so I have to get up 30-40 minutes earlier than I would and I know that at the end of a long crap day I’ve got a 35-45 minute drive home unless I’m working out of Hull on days and then its an hour.
I applied for the job because at the time they had vacancies at 2 depots that are within 10 miles of my house but those vacancies got filled by the time I was invited to their main depot for a chat and a driving assessment. After the chat and driving assessment I was offered a job which will temporarily be running out of their main depot 25 miles away from my house. As soon as a position comes up at one of the two depots nearer to where I live I’ve been told I’ll be based there. I’ll also be doing holiday relief so I’ll be using vehicles that are allready occupied but again that’s a temporary thing as new wagons are due in over the next few months.
I’ve emailed my boss asking whether there are plans to increase driver wages anytime soon or introduce incentives. No reply as yet. I sent a very polite email so I really hope it’s been received in the way it was intended and not as a driver trying to pull a fast one.
The main issue I have at my current workplace is that there are lads that come in and all they do is the easy work. They rarely use sheets and rarely need their trailers to be kitted out with timbers & posts however one of the easiest jobs the company does is incentivised by a bonus system where the driver can earn more money than a driver who’s up and down the country sheeting, chaining etc. other than getting wet and dirty now and again that’s my only gripe with the company. On the whole I like the job.
It’s my 1st job class 1 tramping and I’ve been doing it nearly 4 years and I always wonder whether I could do an easier job with the same if not more money and its that which makes me believe I should at least try something else.
I’m definitely making a decision today either way.

Been offered a job but I’m unsure whether I’d be best staying where I despite it being more money.#
I like my current job most of the time but as I’m always pulling a flatbed I’m sometimes subjected to the wind, rain, snow etc and sheeting and unsheeting steel can be a pain in the arse at times which makes me think that maybe it’d be easier elsewhere.
I’ve been offered a role which is 50p an hour more and they also have other incentives like fuel bonus and meal allowance which would probably see me around £35-£50 up per week. However my current job is only 7 miles away from home where i’d have a 25 mile commute to the new job. I’m also fairly settled in my current job, they get me back home when I want to be, I work the weekends that I want to work, I’m generally among the 1st in line for new vehicles etc, none of which sound like huge “perks” but they do contribute to a better work and home lifestyle.
I’m unsure as to whether the new company would be quite as flexible as my current employer and I’m debating whether its worth the extra cash or not. Also the pay is every 4 weeks compared to my weekly pay that I’m used to so I’ll have to go 4 weeks without pay which means dipping in my savings which isn’t ideal as I get married in May.
How do I stand where the up and coming Bank holiday weekend too? I’d be leaving my current role on Good Friday but my potential new employer want to take me on the Tuesday after the Bank Holiday Monday so that’d leave me unemployed that Monday meaning I lose out on a days holiday that I’ve earnt. Or am I wrong?
It’d no doubt be a cleaner, less physical and better paid job but I know exactly where I stand in my current job.
Any advice appreciated.
I reckon, if you sent that to Take a break, you would win a prize for “letter of the month”
Haha yeah I was concerned about me coming across as a bit of a loose woman

I left a job I hated for my current job for less money too.
I’ve since been offered employment elsewhere for more money etc,but I’m happy where I am,don’t want to leave and be in a job I hate again,
+1 I’m working full time for£8.50 but it’s better than the £10 agy wage when you factor in holiday pay etc and no week end working

I get holiday pay on agency - 33 days a year. Last time I worked for an agency when I didn’t get holiday pay was 1996 when the law changed and temporary workers were entitled to statutory paid holidays the same as permanent workers.
