personaly i dont think i could spend 24/7 with the mrs, we would fight like cat and dog, even though we love each other very much. it will be a good adventure and maybe a few mini holidays could be had.

why not fella, plenty of yanks love it, if you get the right unit, and work, and you both get on, id love for my missus to be with me, but as she dont like driving her clio round a town shes lived in all her life, and NEVER drives on anyhting but local in town roads, cant see it happening

Eyup Kerwyn. We decided to do the double manning a couple of years ago when the lad was finally settled in Uni, as the wife said “if I’m gonna sit there gauping out the window for mile after mile I may as well do my share and earn a bit more in the process”. So she started her theory last April, sailed through her rigid and went straight into her artic lessons, we could’ve got work driving horses around together but I really didn’t want any rigid stuff in her head. Oh by the way you can go straight onto the artic lessons over here in Ireland (republic) and the test is much easier than UK. Anyway she flew through the artic as well and had her full licence by October last year. We were fortunate enough that the logistics firm I worked for put her on the books and let her do all the driving as long as I was with her. This situation lasted 6 months and she gained a shed load of experience then we started looking for double manning and put about 10 cv’s out. We had three offers and got the job at Caffrey Int on the basis that again I was with her all the time which was what we’d planned anyway and we were off to Holland on our first run. They’d said that they only had the odd double manned run and we agreed that if the wife wasn’t being used as the second driver she woudn’t expect to be paid which suited us all but I think they are now taking on work that they would normally have turned down as we are two up all the time now. Whats it like? well we think its great! Whenever we get a 45 we treat it as a mini break and go sight seeing. We eat out whenever we get the chance and really enjoy ourselves. Don’t get me wrong it can be hard 20 in 30 is bloody tough, especially at night but we tend to do 2 or 3 hour stints depending on how weary we are and that is much better. We think a good team is sought after as even the taliban don’t relish 2 up so although we’ve only been at it now for 6 weeks we’ve had two more offers of employment. We met a couple doing the very same for Continental Express on the shuttle the other night and they seemed to be liking it. So we would say go for it people, we’ve never looked back. If you need any encouragement PM us and we’ll give as much help as we can but all I can say is there is only one thing you need to do what we’re doing and that is TOLERANCE.
