Hi guys im new to the forum but been looking at it the past few weeks . Im in a bit of a pickle and dont know what to do. Im currently a bus driver in glasgow and have been for 8 years . Im at breaking point with some of the cheek we have to put up with from the passengers and im currently looking to change career . I was thinking of sitting my class 1&2 and taking it from there only thing is the job pays not to bad a wage about £11 an hour. Should i just bite my tongue and get on with it or is it worth putting my self through class 1&2 ?

Its gonna be useful if not right away then for the future
If you have a pre 1997 C1 then that makes it a little cheaper because your current DQC will be expiry dated 09/09/2019 for both LGV & PCV
I only past my test in 2003 whats the plan then? Have to take cpc for lgv ? I didnt realise my psv cpc would cover me or is that if test is only past vefore 1997 ?
I am in exactly the same position as you, I have been driving buses for some years now but I am at the point where I am sick of the abuse from passengers and the lack of respect from management. I have just passed my class 2 (cat. C) last week and have my Class 1 (cat. C+E) booked in three weeks time.
This is the process which I went through:
Medical and send of form D4 with your licence to get Cat. C provisional entitlement. (If you have had a medical in the last 12 months you don’t need to do the medical again)
Once licence comes back you can book theory test, you need multiple choice and hazard perception, but get started with the studying in the mean time.
Once both parts of theory are passed you can find a training school and get training and test done, you don’t need mod 2 or mod 4 as your PCV CPC covers you for trucks.
Once you pass cat. C and licence comes back with C. entitlement you can go for C+E training and test.
I’ve been there and done that. The passengers were the breaking point.
In all honesty you will struggle to match the £11ph you are on now and you will also struggle getting people to take you on without experience. (Might be okay with class 2 because of bus experience)
You will work more hours for less money and it’s not the type of job where you have a scheduled finish time like you do now.
It will come down to a personal choice. If you want to play with trucks and can afford to do it, then go for it. If you’re thinking there’s a pot of gold waiting for you then you’ll find the reality is harsh.
hey guys thanks for the replys . i had a medical done about 2 years ago when i sent away for my provisional entitlement for cat c , will i need to have another medical done as i already have the entitlement added ?
ive also already sat the theory test but it expired so will need to sit it again as i never got round to sitting the actual practical side of things.
If you have cat. C entitlement on your licence already you will not need to do the medical just have to do the theory and then arrange training and test.

If you passed car test before 1997 then you will have C1 on your licence
If you completed 35 hours of dcpc then you will have a DQC expiry dated 09/09/2019 for both LGV and PCV
If you do not have C1 on your licence then you will need to pass initial LGV DCPC modules 2 and 4
