Should I buy my own unit

Bewick:
As you appear to have done your homework well Harry, could I ask what % of your projected T/o will be spent on Derv?

More than I would want in an ideal world, £0.75 per mile against earnings of £1.80 per mile.

Bewick:
and have you got in place a fuel surcharge/discount mechanism which has been accepted by your customer from the “get go”?

Yes, I have that. I won’t say who I will be working for on the forum but I will PM you if you wish. A company which has been trading for 50 years, has assets of £22 million and cash-at-bank of £5 million.

Bewick:
although only having one customer will be precarious to say the least ! “eggs in one basket” and all that.

If I can ride out the recession I will be able to put the second truck on roadshow work, which is what I have always specialised in.

I honestly don’t know if it will work out or not, but basically I have three choices.

1). Carry on being unemployed.

2). Carry on working for gippoes who I have to take to court to get my wages.

3). Put a truck on the road and take my chances.

I’ll go with 3!

You needn’t PM me,regardless of the fact that I would never divulge anything I’d been told in confidence, but the less people know the more secure you’ll be ! However that .75p per mile works out at about 42% of your earnings per mile which in to-days hostile enviroment is pretty good I would say,but will you be paid for every mile regardless of been laden or empty? And what MPG are you working on ? 7mpg? Just interested in the numbers from an historical point of view.Cheers Bewick.
