Should i become a O/D?

you rarely make money on traction, the only way to make money as an o/d is find your own work direct with your own trailer, its all relative, if you have a curtainsider on light work you can get 2k p/w using little fuel or get a bulker and do 3k a week with a ton of fuel to pay for and a knackered motor every 6 weeks.
also, if you have full r&m on a truck its strange how nothing needs replacing at 6 week service, dont have r&m and its quite suprising how many bits go wrong, hmmmmm■■?

So how come you see so many people pulling trailers for other companys like mr vain?
I take it you can just about get by but with no profit?

ive had a look and on previous exp, there will only be instant payment if you forfeit some of your hard earned like 7% or something , and if you use their trailers there will be charges, you need to find out what they are, not just rental but the tyre bills etc, or if you use your own then you need to find out if u get paid more. also if they are doing the trailer inspections make sure they ARE being done.
you may end up sitting round for 14 hrs and if they are paying by the box or the mile then that could have an effect.ask if they do guaranteed earnings, it all sounds good but u just have to find out, ive heard certain container companies paying 1600 quid a week and making out thats good! i couldnt run a lorry for that even if the driver was free. its hard graft and i dunno why i like being an owner driver but i do. also i found that if you dont try it it will bug you always :grimacing:

All seems very hard to stay afloat.I would like to be an owner driver when i am older but it would be easier and cheaper to take over Reddaways.

cant be done you need your own you truck can be snached

you could run your own truck on someone elses but you would have to hire it to them, they insure it and put their disc in the window and even then its a bit iffy

And 50p per mile to run between ports or restitution :unamused:
