I have problems sleeping if i’m doing shifts… usually either kids playing or other noise during the day. So I would be looking for day work.
I sometimes have trouble sleeping at night anyway…
Im also not too experienced. I have done the odd day for agency work, and feel knackered when I get in from one day. is it something i could get used to?
I am currently doing part time at aldi and would hate to pack that job in only move into a job i’m incapable of doing and end up being unemployed.
Are you driving at aldi?
You are not saying whether you drive lorries already or not you only mention your difficulty in sleeping and how knackered you get from your day at work.
You may have to review your health at some point as problems sleeping and early onset fatigue are a sign your body needs attention, these problems are likely to impact on any job especially full time.
Doesn’t sound wise to me. It’s vital that you have full concentration when driving. You cant achieve this without sleeping properly. Unless this can be sorted you should consider another career path.

I’d say 90% of lorry drivers probably struggle to get in the full recommend 8hrs sleep a night especially if they have kids,my lad goes bed around 8 ish so if I’m due in work at day 3am the earliest I’ll get into bed is 8:30,asleep for 9ish and I’ll be back up at 2am,after 10 years though you do get used to less that the "recommended " sleep time.
The only time I’ll get tired is this time of day when I’ve got home had my tea and then it hits,I’ve not long woken from a cheeky hour nap on the sofa.
I used to be terrible about needing 8+ hours to be able to function/perform as I can.
But as I’ve got older (44 now), I can get a way with less sleep and still function!

Or maybe I’m ■■■■ getting more stupid!
Think it might be the latter evil, you just don’t notice any more
Yea thanks for the replies. I am currently doing part time at aldi. stock assistant shoving produce out onto shelves etc.
I had done the odd driving job via agency, the odd day and although I enjoy the driving side the demands of customers and employer was a pain.
I usually got 7am starts, driving 150 odd miles per day. I think my sleeping problem is due to long summer days so going to try eye pad things to put on like top cat does when he’s going to bed lol… will let yous know how I get on. failing that i’ll head the doctors. I have tried nytol but althouygh they made me feel tired they didn’t work for me,
Saw a device in a trucking magazine other day (quite expensive think about £150) stick it on your finger at it sounds an alarm if you lose concentration or start to nod off.
The fact that someone dreamt this up suggests that the problem you have is far from unique. I imagine a lot of drivers are in the same position. In your favour is the fact you have acknowledged it is a problem and want to do something about it.
The real problem are the ones like our dustcart friend up north who lied through his teeth and covered up his problems with devastating consequences.
im sorry but is this for real lol ■■ first of all you are asking other people if you should be a lorry driver ? i dont know about everyone else but only myself could tell me this is the career path i want to go down ? ur first post was all about u bein tired from putting some produce on shelves ? you are either lazy or have serious health issues… get to doctors and get some prescribed for you to sleep if it is a real issue. could be anything from a bit of anxiety to insomnia… im not trying to have a go here btw but ur first post was very vague and didnt give any reasons as to why you ask should you be a lorry driver ?
I had two hours sleep last night, had a drive to Newcastle for a 7am tip which means I start at 3:15am. Drank two cans of Monster but still struggled. Once I tipped I made straight for a layby and had an hours kip. I hate doing that run because the company will deliver to refuse to pay for a nightout, plus its normally on a Monday which makes it doubley hard not to mention I’m only one of 3 that have low enough wagons that will fit into the underground loading area.

Well exactly… I was thinking of just going ahead but the bin lorry in Glasgow incident make me think twice.
