Shortage of trees in Finland?

Came up the E25 this week (for the second time) over the Ardennes, and went past a wagon & drag with a load of logs on.
Nothing unusual in that, you see them everywhere in that area, but,as I overtook it I noticed it said Sisu on the mudflaps and thought that was a bit unusual as you don’t see many Sisu’s outside Finland.Indeed,it was a Sisu.

Then I saw that it was actually registered in Finland.
So,is there a shortage of trees in Finland, seems strange they come all this way for a few logs.

I think Renault are flogging a lot of offroad and heavy haulage models badged Sisu now to cash in on their robust image - I know you know what you’re talking about, but I’m amazed there’d be a Finnish log truck that far from home

A lot of the trucks I see in Scandinavia wouldn’t be allowed to run anywhere else because of the MGW (60 tonnes) and the configuration.

It was quite an old looking model,so a pucker Sisu.
And I was amazed too when I saw the Finnish plates on it.

Just wish I’d been quick enough to whip me camera out for a snap of it.

I have on occasion seen a couple of Sisu´s in Spain the last one was about 4 years ago

is it really ? different kinds of trees produce different kind of wood as far as I remember, he could well have been on a tramping route like Scandinavian pine to Italy for furniture building, then some french wood in to Belgium before reloading home.

I’ve not noticed any undue bareness of the countryside

I think the prices being paid for timber locally are fairly low at the moment, so maybe forest owners are waiting for the market to improve? I’m guessing however that vascoingles’ suggestion that the timber was something special is probably right.

There shouldn’t be a problem with running the combination in europe, the timber trucks tend to be quite short, so it would presumably just be a question of keeping under the relevant weight limits.

Ive not been to Finland for a couple of years, but unless some terrible plague has killed all the trees off I doubt they have a shortage - it would be akin to them having a shortage of fresh water with 17,000 odd lakes!!!

Perhaps this truck was loaded with timer of a speciell sort as we dont have in Scandinavia for made special furnityre using harder wood or gets a finer finish. In Sweden, Norway and Soumi (Finland) we have pine, spruce, birch, juiper, ash and oak. What we not have is tree of teak for example.

Some furnitures are made of a speciell tree types as we not have. If Finland want more pine they bought it from Russia and is carrying by a large boat/barge. The same being valid in Sweden too.

Another possible reason is that lots of Finnish Lumberjacks do
come into Europe to work and the vehicle may be part of that set up

I’ve seen many estonian, latvian, swedish and finnish lumber trucks in the last few weeks around bordeaux, a very nice german artic also. They are still clearing up the winter storm and as Stora Enso has closed down many papermills in scandinavia, there is an abundance of idle lumber trucks in scandinavia. and there’s no prohibition on the run of the mill 7-axle 60ton gw trucks in europe anywhere - if they’re not over 18.75m long that is, they just have to run half-empty at 40 ton gw.
