Where does the re-imbursed money come from?
Company account? Bosses trading account? Bosses personal wallet carried about their person?
Cash paid without any signatures is about the only thing that can’t be traced by HMRC I guess.
Is this how it’s done?
Anything coming from a trading account, or put through a payslip is going to end up double-deducted for tax (illegal) if one’s not careful.
If played straight, then why get a £500 pay packet raised to £600 because of a £100 fuel refund, only to pay over £20 extra tax on the said wages as a result?
Full timers didn’t get expenses offsets unless self-employed I thought. One of the main arguments I got for chucking the full time job and going agency in the first place!
Winseer, you seem to have very little knowledge here.
If you work for a co. on PAYE your wages will be made up of gross earnings less tax & national insurance contributions* (the employer also has to contribute to the latter) PLUS expenses reimbursement such as parking, bridge tolls, ppe, and other ancillary expenses.
(which may or may not include fuel). No income tax is payable on these reimbursements.
All this information should be clearly shown on your wage slip or electronic advise.
These are legitimate business expenses and as such your employer may (and should) offset them against any tax due on any profits at the end of the tax year.
It matters not to you, the driver, where the expenses reimbursement has come from so long as you get. Its up to the co. to account for it.
- Also possibly holiday pay & pension deductions.
I don’t know why they havn’t set up something like ‘Comdata’ in Europe yet ?
We run low on funds we call te company, they give us a Comcheck number, we take it to any truckstop, they give us cash or fuel or both. It’s so simple. Large companies issue drivers with Comdata cards and we use them directly at the pump.
Yes, clearly I have little experience of how the system works. I felt that if someone was doing it straight, and it was a lucrative way of doing it, then we’d ALL be doing just that.
In 22 years of having a full time job, I was never offered expenses, not even PPE because that was laid on by the firm as well.
This meant that “transferring to another office” was always going to be out of the question - BECAUSE there would be NO permanent expenses attached with the move BECAUSE you’re going to be spending over 40% of your time at the new office, or whatever.
As for PAYE - I’ve always insisted upon it, not fancying the extra hassle for pretty much bugger all extra pay that is involved with going Self-Employed.
If firms are prepared to pay expenses on a PAYE payslip for this and that, then why isn’t EVERYONE doing that, to maximise worker’s pay which I’m sure would in many cases make up for the lower hourly rate achievable elsewhere…
I can’t be the only person in the Universe here working for an agency that plays it straight surely?
Maybe we should all get our willies out, and start talking about the “good” firms as opposed to just lamblasting the bad ones?
It’s easy for a newbie to the business to get the impression that “all agencies are crap” because people only write bad things about them, and no one ever sings their praises of the good ones through fear of ridicule, or whatever.
I wouldn’t mind think of all the nectar points lol

dude, this is primary school stuff, what are you stuggling with?
You do a night out and pay for parking, you give the receipt to the boss man, boss man gives you the same amount back. You get nothing extra out of it other than your choice of points and the interest if you use your credit card, infact you should get a cashback credit card! It really is that simple.
