so it looks like vosa could be looking to top up their xmas party fund then… what do u guys think do u think its a bit steep or pretty fair…
Vosa has revealed increases in fines issued as graduated fixed penalties (GFPs) for commercial vehicle drivers — the first increase since the agency was granted to power to issue GFPs in 2009.
The new levels of GFPs will apply to a variety of offences, ranging from drivers’ hours to overloading and increases to the maximum deposit that can be taken at the roadside — for both UK and non-UK registered drivers — are also being proposed.
The changes, expected to be introduced in July, see:
-A £30 non-endorsable fine rise to £50
-A £60 endorsable and non-endorsable fine rise to £100
-A £120 endorsable and non-endorsable fine rise to £200
-And a £200 endorsable and non-endorsable fine rise to £300
Roads minister Stephen Hammond said: “We are increasing penalties for a range of driving offences to a level which reflects their seriousness and ensure that they are consistent with other similar penalty offences.”
Vosa revealed plans to increase test fees last month.

in fine amounts, how serious is a bulb which blew after you left the depot?
My point entirely on such cases. Not VOSA but DOT over here gave me a ticket at a check point because one of the inside drive tyres was actually going down, I had just picked up a bolt within a few minutes of being stopped, both myself and the DOT cop could hear the air gushing out, and the ■■■■■■■ gave me a ticket, I did contest it and the ticket and fine were dimissed but I still got CSA points on my record.

If you can prove you did your start of duty walk round check you shouldn’t get fined. It may be a pain to fill them in even to put NFF but its at a roadside check for a fault like this that doing one will show its worth.
Is it just me who doesn’t have a fear of VOSA, Police, Salavation Army etc.
Surely if you do your job to the requirements of what’s expected.
ie,check your truck, restrain your load then what’s the worst that can happen?
I’ve been pulled a couple of times in the last 10 years, and been on my way within 10 minutes on each occasion.
Why does the so called professional driver fear the authorities so much?
At no point am I saying my card would be whistle clean, but it’s never been checked. I think the personality test at the point of being called Into the check point goes a long way.
