Shock horror! Hermes drivers earn less than minimum wage!

My local Hermes subbie has just bought himself another new car/van thingy, its his third in the last few years

TBF, he is a grafter, and is at it pretty much every day, but he seems happy enough :bulb:

He also has another “courier” customer, who he piggybacks with his Hermes work, and he does “Next” as well, clever lad ain`t he

Next is done by Hermes

Not all of it, the class 2 furniture deliveries are DHL.

Unfortunately the thing we take for granted when we order everything online and expect quick delivery for next to nothing, are the self employed van drivers that are running round like blue arse flies for a peanut per parcel to make it possible.

It’s never the likes of UPS whose drivers are on proper salaries with good t&c’s that deliver your ‘free next day delivery’.

Would people be prepared to pay for delivery knowing the person delivering it gets a proper wage? I doubt it very much. I used to deliver pizzas and customers complained about the £1 delivery charge, despite being told it went towards the drivers wages.

More fool the knob who works for that wage.

The better idea is that customers don’t get a choice about whether to pay for proper wages, the same way they don’t get a choice about whether to pay for profits.

Moreover, receiving low wages as a worker itself creates an unwillingness or inability to pay more as a consumer - the Fordist issue that Carryfast always raises.

The absurdity of competition in our society is that my street is sometimes visited by several different delivery drivers per day, all being paid buttons by several different firms, and none of whom have a local delivery office where I can collect parcels if necessary.

Too many idiots with floored business models :open_mouth: :unamused:

Carpet fitters?

Im ■■■■ sure he uses a different HHT for the Next delivery, thats why I thought he may be working for another outfit ?

TBH, he doesn’t say too much, he is always flying about, a bit like those UPS drivers, they never have time to yap #whoosh

I agree, people will pay a fortune for “fair trade” coffee or bananas so people in “developing countries” can earn a decent wage. Meanwhile, they demand their goods are delivered for free, because A-N-OTHER company does it, without considering the wages of the staff. Just look at sports direct, it’s public knowledge how badly they treat their staff, yet their stores are always busy.

There is a belief that the only people who struggle in this country are those who don’t work hard enough!

A perfect display of people’s attitudes.

Just do what every company on amazon does, offer free delivery and jack the price up…
