I currently work Tue-Sat…Rest Sun & Mon.
Had a call asking me to work overtime on Mon but said NO as have things planned with the family!
I get another call (VERY POLITE) saying I am being moved at short notice to Mon -Fri this week and overtime on Sat if I want it!! Otherwise I have a nice long weekend Sat,Sun,Mon off!!!
All this with less then 15 hours notice?? I am looking forward to my long weekend as have no plans to do O/T on Sat!!!
Just wondered what the rules are on changing shifts as I finished on Sat at 1730 after 5 days??
It all depends on your contract of employment, if you ever saw one. In any case, even if it says that your ‘normal’ hours are Tuesday to Saturday; you can bet there is an escape clause that says something like “Or any other hours as required”.
No problem, just take the 3 days and call their bluff
I would rather have Sat & Sun, after all that is the weekend isn’t it ?
You should try my job, where I can start the week either on days or nights, by weds I would be working opposite hours then back to days on Fri. There’s no shift premium in this part of the world

I know a lot of our lads were told they were having there shifts changed I.e mon-fri to thurs -mon when there was redundancy s,they just told them to stuff it,and took redundancy instead.

Has the shift change affected you in anyway?
Eh?
Of course it has.

Even though your not the OP , but reading his post looks to me he has gained from it. He has gained a long weekend from it.
To the OP crack on and get on with it. It’s a job at the end of the day and it’s better to have it then not have one at all. Also enjoy your weekend
IMHO it reads as though the OPs’ shift change has been made this week but because he had plans in place the company has conceded this coming Monday off (maybe paid, maybe not). Because the OP has declined to work Saturday on overtime he will have a 3 day week end this week only and in the weeks to come will be working Monday to Friday.
It doesn’t seem to me as though there is a great deal that can be done and would wager that his contract does not specify days only the number of days in a week that will be worked i.e.any 5 from 7.
That’s not how I read it. I was under the impression they’re forcing him to work tomorrow (his usual day off) instead of working next Saturday (his usual working day), but he can work Saturday as overtime if he wants.
Second paragraph is the relevant bit in my reasoning. The caller from the company is conceding that the prior arrangments are being honoured. This of course with the situation being as described in the OP

+1
And I don’t know how someone could judge from a post if I am a yes man or not
Think they need to give you either 24 or 48 hours notice, failing that you can say no and work your pre arranged shift pattern and they can’t say anything. Even though it benefits you you should of declined because now they’ll think its OK to do it. Next time it might not benefit you but you’ve already done it once…

That’s next weekend. If he doesn’t work the Saturday, then he’ll have that plus his normal two days off. It doesn’t change the fact he’s being made to work tomorrow (one of his normal days off) at short notice.

Wasn’t this a driving hours question regarding weekly rest periods? Or maybe I read it differently to the rest of you!
Unless he does a reduced weekly rest, can’t he not work until Monday afternoon at earliest? Or is the assumption that he is fine doing a reduced weekly? (That is all assuming that he does work his new shift pattern, Mon to Fri)
