Cashless society is a bad thing?
How much intrinsic value is there in a brown, or silver metal disc? It’s not gold.
Is there any more security in a bit of printed paper or plastic than an electronic transfer?
Anyone who uses a bank is already, at least partly, cashless.
Are you really that naive?
Cash in your pocket, is yours. And you can spend it as you wish. Legally. Without being g tracked/watched/recorded.
The implications of a ‘cashless’ society are truly Orwellian.
“I’m sorry sir, your driving licence has beensuspended/revoked, because our records show that you buy more than the state allowed ■■■ number of alcohol units”
“Im sorry sir, you can not come into the hospital, because you bought cigarettes/fatty cakes/more than the state sanctioned amount of red meat”
"Sorry sir, your card has been declined. You have exceeded your state sanctioned maximum mileage/fuel allowance "
“Sorry sir, your card has been declined. The machine does not tell me why. Please contact your local state representative”
People dobbin in their neighbours for leaving their house twice in a day is one thing, but this??
Youre conflating some different issues aren
t you? And ignoring others?
.
Paper and coin can be forged. That benefits criminals and costs society.
Electronic funds too can be corrupted, yes, although your arguments suggest they are all powerful. Are you arguing both sides?
.
If there were to be a state allowance for fuel that could be circumvented by using cash, that equals the black market and corruption, an argument against cash.
.
Buying alcohol isnt he same as drinking it all oneself, but I don
t want alcoholics behind the wheel anyway.
.
Hospital rationing/refusal due to patient action/lifestyle is totally irrelevant to cash vs card.
Arguments may be had, but the method of payment is irrelevant.
.
There are arguments to be had about surveillance, sure, but payment methods don`t seem very relevant to me.
But that is what it is. Surveillance. As is the case now, if you pay by card, Tesbury know what you buy, when, and where. Presently, they use it to tailor their advertising and special offers.
But, if the only means to pay, is via card, then all your purchases will be monitored.
We can argue long and hard about wether or not that would be good, or beneficial to all, but I only mentioned a few examples. Nobody wants a drunk behind the wheel, but if I decide to push the boat out on two of my four days off, i would have to prove to a commissar that I’m not an alcoholic who gets behind the wheel drunk. That is, if you get a chance to argue.
Insurance companies wont argue. They will ramp up your premium, or refuse insurance, without recourse.
You wont be able to buy books/papers that are considered ‘subversive’ by the state.
Buying to many ‘over the counter’ medication? Again, automatic red flags for insurance and/or DVLA.
And my personal concern, (as it is now), trying to take cash out of an ATM or paying for goods, and the machine going ‘uh uh’. There are many possible problems that can screw up the electronic banking system (as indeed it has on a small scale in the past) hacking, glitches, or possibly, state interference. If the state can turn off your money (which is yours, you earned it…), they control you.
Can you imagine the ■■■■■■ that Thatcher would have had just thinking of that much control over the working class? And so much easier than convincing them to buy their council house first.
