Was thinking of converting to PSV does anyone know what companies like Shearings pay ?
Troll, sorry try, coachnetuk.com

I’d say around $5 a fleece
I’ve had a look into this before but struggle to find a straight answer.
Public buses are simpler in terms of pay and it seems to range from £9.50ph to £12 ish ph, on 38/40 hours contract with overtime available after.
As for coaches I’ve seen all sorts from shocking looking day rates (seen £80 for a day advertised recently!!!) to terrible £9 per hour pay rates and then just salary discussed at interview, but then some mention commission and things like that. I’ve left the idea for now because I can’t get an answer about what your regular take home pay is.
Not far above minimum wage. Also don’t get too much in the way of tips these days but… If you get on the right tour you can earn a good amount in commission from some places. Edinburgh Woollen Mill used to pay A decent amount if you take a coach load into them and they spend money.
Personally I hated tour work apart from Contiki. Any problems and it’s you sorting them. Doris doesn’t like their room, guess who gets a knock on the door - you! Same with all other issues.
What’s it like if your doing just day trips kind of work? You know like school trips, football fans to a match, woman’s institute day out lol and all that kind of thing? Is that shocking money for doing that?

I’m not sure Shearings do that sort of thing bud. I’m fairly certain it’s set itinerary.
Smaller firms do though. Avoid football fans as it’s just not worth the hassle but they do tend to have a whip round at least.
Worth looking into Eurolines type work. I loved it as you get to see great places but the punters are generally self sufficient wanting to go A to B so you don’t have to ingratiate yourself with them too much
Coach driving pay is low yes but can be made up various ways. Might struggle to walk straight into a tour job though straight from passing your test. I loved tour work and am hoping to go back and do some again next season
What about national express? There’s a company not far from me that do a national express contract, the pay they advertise is £11ph on target earnings. I was always under the impression that a salary advertised as OTE means some of that is commission based. But how can a national express driver get commission?
Only plus side I see for coach driving, The cargo is self loading, and unloading, and there might be some nice veiws, in and out of the seat…

Plus don’t forget “collection for the driver.”

Plus side I think of (having never done it of course) is that your driving to places that people want to go to, ie nice places, scenic places, places of interest. Whereas on trucks your driving to places where companies need goods to go, which is normally some dump of in industrial estate where no one wants you

Then you aren’t looking hard enough. Approach with the right frame of mind and every tour can almost be like a holiday. Loved my time touring Europe. When it’s good it’s way better than lorry driving. People moan about having to carry passengers but remember the vast majority are there to have a good time so do your job well and everything is great. Passengers remember good coach drivers years later I found, you can make their holiday with very little effort

Worst. Job. I. Ever. Had! You think you’re pushed from pillar to post and taken advantage of driving a truck? Try driving for National Express…go go go

Are those drivers looking at max hours then?
■■■■ mate, wouldn’t work there for 2k a week and a golden pig.
Know a bloke who, who knows a bloke, who knew a bloke, well his mate worked there and lasted a month and said they were awful to work for.
Once got overtook by one doing 62 mph as well so they must be push, push, push and max hours.

I’d fancy doing coach holiday driving. I reckon it could be a lot of fun. Even in the UK. Plus… they get free food at the services.
But I’m not going to go through another medical and drop a grand so I can potentially get into it.
I’d have thought driving a small bus on the test wasn’t much harder than driving a rigid truck (I might be totally wrong) so I’m not sure why I’d need a full course… I would do it if you could do a shorter course for more reasonable money.
How different is driving a small bus (the type they train you on) compared to a big rigid lorry?

LoL I did it the other way. Why, when I passed a test in a full length, full height double deck bus and was allowed to carry 80 plus living breathing nuns and kittens did I have to do another medical/theory/practical test in a 12 tonner empty to carry pallets of crap that dont die if they fall over? Answer, money!
