She was good in bread

Gilly Coman, who starred in the popular sitcom ‘Bread’, has died at the age of 54.

The actress, who played Aveline Boswell in the BBC series, suffered a suspected heart attack, reports The Sun.

Gilly played the character for five series and more than 21 million viewers tuned in for the 1988 episode where she married Oswald.

When she quit the show after five years, Melanie Hill took over the role of Aveline.

Carla Lane, who created ‘Bread’, paid tribute to the actress, saying: “She was brilliant and amazingly funny. The way she dressed up in those heels and walked down the street represented ‘Bread’.”

As well as appearing in ‘Bread’, Gilly also had roles in ‘Open All Hours’, ‘Inspector Morse’, ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Brookside’.

She quit acting in 2000 to bring up her four children.
