Got a drop in Cardiff then Abergavenny tomorrow then back across to Avonmouth, looking for the best way to get from Abergavenny but the Sat-Nav is taking me across the Severn Bridge, going from England to Wales it was asking if I wanted to use a toll road which I assume is the bridge yet coming from Wales not a peep. Do the tolls only work one way or will I get a nasty surprise when I get to the bridge?
The toll on the Severn bridge is only on the way into Wales, coming out there is no toll.
Leaving Wales is free, us English can afford the 19 quid, the welsh can’t…
Such a bizarre setup. Not complaining though, that cuts my travel time down by an hour by not going round. Should be home for 3pm!
Aye and don,t try to say I have no money ,theyll say it,s ok ,just stick your hazards on there a min. Then take your details ,not the companys and send you the bill in the post.Just can,t remember how much it was, over £20 odd pounds, 5 years ago.Not counting time lost sitting like a tube
Don’t forget the BP garage at Ross on Wye has a Greggs inside that opens early weekdays, be about right for a £2.50 Bacon and Sausage roll and a large coffee on the way down won’t it…yum.

The form gives you a choice these days…be a good employee and fill in your details or (and here’s a hint) the companies…if you ain’t got a tag that is, or give the 20 outta your own pocket and get the receipt…providing the company will stump up!

Not really. They figure that the vast majority of people going over the bridge will be doing a return journey, and since the “go-around” route is more expensive (in fuel) than the toll, most people won’t divert. It also means that drivers only have to stop in one direction too. they also save money by only having to pay for one set of tollbooth staff, which will offset the small losses incurred by people “going around” on the Wales-bound direction.
They don’t tend to do it on other toll roads like Dartford because the alternative routes (Blackwall Tunnel/Woolwich Ferry) don’t involve as much of a diversion.
