While I’m on about parking I often wondered what happens if you park at a service area and don’t pay! I have always payed but often thought would I get away without paying!? Have any of you tried it?
I think it was S Mimms. Parked, went in to buy meal and pay for ticket at the same time. I didn’t go back to the wagon and display the ticket until I had digested my meal and had a nap. drew th curtains and went to sleep. Woken by my alarm to find a ticket stuck to my windscreen. Got out and found a chain round my front wheel. Phoned the number on the ticket and eventualy the clamper arrived. A polite but lithley intimidating sikh who cast no shadow and made no sound when he moved. He was accompanied by a scampering little London fellow who did all the manuals. The Sikh showed me a photo of my widscreen showing no ticket was displayed. I apologised, produced the ticket and said, “it must have slipped down” The chain was removed and they disapeared into the gloom, safely before the rays of the sun struck them
When i was tramping, i found that at some services with the anpr cameras, if you drove a bit sharp down the slip road, they wouldnt take the pic of your plate.
Then when you go to pay, there is no record of you entering the services.

i stop at the service before the 1 i’m going to park up in. i use black tape to change the 6 into a 8 and the 1 into a 7 on my number plate. the lorry i drive is 4 year old and i’ve never paid or got a ticket yet.
A mate of mine went fishing and agreed to meet his mate at Gordano Services (M5), anyway my mate left his car there came back 12 hrs later picked his car up went home, several days later a bill popped through the letterbox for i think he said £60.00, he took advice but didn’t have a leg to stand on so paid up.
@milkchurns, from what you are saying it sounds like you are a very naughty boy and really shouldn’t be trying to corrupt the upstanding members of this forum with your despicable antics of fraud & deception I hope you take this as a warning from a senior member and you feel guilty enough to improve your outrageous behaviour as I will have no hesitation in reporting you to all the appropriate authorities if this kind of thing comes to my attention again
The simple answer is that nothing will happen. They will send a few nasty letters but there is categorically, concrete nothing they can do on the matter.

Changing the reg number could be construed as perverting the course of justice…be careful out there 'cos if you get caught you’ll be up to your neck in ■■■■…not from the services but the plod that want to know why you are changing your reg number then driving on the motorway!!!

i was caught once and fined £80. i just told her why i did it. she eat the ■■■ of me i told me that the next time she would sent me before the courts.
I did hear that if they fined you there was nothing they could do to force you to pay that fine! but that was off a driver who had been around the world in an erf day cab quicker than Michael plain! So I just put it down to another tale of the road! Being a young lad it’s hard to judge what to believe! Ha ha!
