Seriously skilled A-frame reverse

dar1976:
Just a thought though. I take it that you cannot get an A frame stuck by overdoing the lock.

Not stuck exactly, but you will end up with a very sorry looking bent A frame if you don’t know what you’re doing.

pffft ive done that with a drawbar a few times :sunglasses:

the fact i didnt mean to is not my point i tied it in several quite intricate knotts loads of times

he did nothing other than what a rigid driver would have done, the flexibility of the trailer did all the real work

Er, no…

Take it you’ve never driven an A frame, bonny lad?

Er, no…

Take it you’ve never said anything in jest and gave a little wink after to show it wasn’t a serious comment, I did comment how impressive it was the first few times it was on here

I wonder if there’s a video on the net from his first attempt :grimacing:

PS I’m not a “Bonny Lad” I’m just big boned :grimacing:

I can see why many people are really impressed with this. A view at any RDC/MSA will show a lot of reversing leaving a lot to be desired, and to be honest i reckon half of them woudn’t chance reversing a van near an incline/drop like that, never mind a trailer. So rather than expect a truck driver to be able to actually reverse his truck and manoevre it they’ll say…great skill etc… Its just what any lorry driver does, moves his lorry about and gets around. But i guess if it amazes you that a lorry driver can actually manouvre his truck around then your own standards aint to high !!

I did a few weeks on an A-Frame a couple of months ago, 1st attempt at reverse was amazing, second attempt was pitiful, then I got the hang of it and could put it where I wanted it but even then, 1 night I decided I was too tired to make it back, so pulled into a services to grab 15 mins, saw 2 spaces together, thought “I’ll reverse into there”… 20 mins later I decided I wouldn’t need to be in a gap afterall for a 15 minute power-nap.
Guess I was just so tired, but I completely ■■■■■■ it up, and there was a couple of drivers having their break in there at the time, watching me and probably laughing their heads off.

But other times, I could put it 90 degrees and flat onto a bay, which is a seriously dificult manouver with an a-frame, and have also had it where I could almost read my own number plate in my mirror whilst they loaded the unit and trailer at the same time, which was cool.

1st time I’ve seen that vid, and I think it’s brill :grimacing:
