Serious Failure

File VMM32.VXD missing or corrupt

That’s what my desktop PC is showing when I try to boot it. Initially it was saying Can’t Find SYSTEM.INI

I can get into DOS from a system restore disk and have tried using Second Chance. I have tried C:\WINDOWS and SYSTEM.INI is there (access denied). VMM32.VXD ain’t. I have a system boot disc on CD, but DOS does not recognise the drives D:\ and E:\ and looking at the directory on the CD, VMM32.VXD is not listed anyway. I don’t have the original discs. - I fell for one of these systems that only give you a Restore Pack, and I don’t fancy having the whole hard drive reformatted.

Running on Windows ME and having to post this from a rather tired Laptop. :smiling_imp:

Any (constructive) advice would appreciated.

Not sure if I can help Krankee but seeing as you’ve had no replies yet I’ll give it a go.

I assume from the “VMM32.VXD” that you may have just installed a scanner driver??

Are you able to boot in safe mode?

Thanks for the help, but the determination was that the hard drive had ‘turned turtle’.

The kids will have to make do with scraps for Xmas lunch.
