Serious Concerns for my safety...driving at 40 mph

Im paid by the hour so only do 20mph on SC, DC and motorways.

so why cant u all get it into your tiny brains that the speed limit is what is stated. if you get done then you have points on and your insurance goes up as well, not to mention a letter to vosa

reeferpilot well said , i also stick to speed limits not only for my companys standards but to complyy with the law , if any of the ryanair tubes want to pass me then so be it on their own back , good luck to them

WHY, Does anybody want to rush about when they are hourly paid? a\m i missing something here

what reeferpilot wrote is true, WHY do we need an increase in speed limits | to increase productitvy in transport,i dont think so
look at it this way if every one went back to an even playing field charging the same rate for a job then all would be ok , but you always get the [zb] who wants to undercut just to get the job so hence the situation we are all in now.###

WHY DONT ALL CONTRACTORS GET IT IT INTO THEIRE HEADS IT I S A WORK FOR US ALL AT A DECENT AND PROFITIBLE OUTCOME TO US ALL, BUT NO THERE ARE ALWAYS THE GREEDY [ZB] WHO THINK I WILL MAKE A CUT ONTHIS . SO WHERE DOES IT END MANY YEARS AGO ?

Even when the national speed limit was 20mph for HGVs, and later 30, there were always cowboys cutting corners and undercutting proper firms, so nothing to do with the speed limit. We’ve got reasonable roads, lorries that go, steer and stop better all the time, the 40mph limit is unrealistic, causes unnecessary delays and encourages drivers to take chances to get by. There’s enough delay on the roads caused by roadworks, accidents and sheer volume of traffic at busy times, why can’t we just get on when we can? It’s the 21st century FFS! I’m retired now and the biggest thing I drive on a regular basis is a 3.5 tonner, but mainly cars now. I’m based just off the A15, it’s really frustrating to be behind a lorry at 40mph (or usually 38, just to be on the safe side  ) for miles on end, not surprising people take chances to overtake and get into trouble.

YES, you’re missing the fact that not everyone is hourly paid.

It is not difficult to speed up the lorry but it is difficult to stop it…
BTW those “speeders” are job under cutters too :smiling_imp:

Cos they think they’re heroes in their employers eyes! Unfortunately they’re just seen as the mug that’ll charge on, do the job quicker & save them a few quid!

Either that, or they’re getting a good bung (that I don’t get) on top of their wages to break the law! :unamused:

Its just not woryh speeding.you dont get no thanks for it.ever since my company fitted video cameras to the trucks.its legal speeds no matter what. As everything is recorded i rather make sure im legal as sods law is i have an accident and the footage shows for the last ten miles ive been doing 50 in a 40 for the last ten miles.you know who would be the one without s job the next day.

Perhaps they should bring out signs for the back of trucks stating " I would love to be going faster but I am not allowed to by stupid bloody laws, your patience is very much appreciated"

Some companies arent interested in whether or not its the law to do 40…

I regularly travel from Norfolk to the north west on S/C at 40 mph, not just because its the law but it puts my average fuel consumption up so i receive my daily fuel bonus. Its not much but its better in my pocket than Jacks

Truckers can sit at 40 mph all day long but have some consideration for drivers stuck behind you especially when you pass empty layby after empty layby…

The police want to get fired into the truckers who hold up miles of queues as much as they do speeders regardless what the limit is

What would they do? Fine them for driving at the legal speed?

Fantasy world…

What about drivers who have to achieve certain fuel figures? Stopping every few mile even empty would seriously harm your fuel figures.

If every lorry driver did 40 which is supposed to happen you wouldn’t get massive queues, you would get lots of little queues. Then impossible overtakes by cars now become achievable. Too simple?
