Is there really going to be a vast shortage of drivers come september due to the CPC.
I recently secured a class 2 job with wincanton, the guy who assessed my driving had worked for them for over 30 years
He stated “without doubt there will be a huge driver shortage after september”
Is there really this “ill just carry on driving” attitude?

There isn’t a “ill just carry on driving” attitude but there is a “why should I have to pay for a none qualification” attitude
I also think the assessor was talking rubbish, there is no driver shortage nor is there likely to be one in September, there could be a shortage of experienced drivers though.
It’s bloody ludicrous that drivers who’ve been doing the job for 10,20,30+ years are being told they need a piece of paper to say they can do the job. Between the European parliament, the useless clowns in Westminster and the HSE, it’s a wonder that anyone can do anything any more.
What may happen is that there are a seasonal drivers who only drive prior to christmas, I guess quite a few of these drivers may not of done the CPC so won’t be able to drive. I suppose time will tell.
I think drivers a making a big deal out of nothing really, I am only new to driving in the last few years and when i was doing my cpc modules (here in Ireland) it is unbelievable the amount of drivers (so called experienced drivers by the way) who did not know the rules on driving hours and so on. I do agree that some modules are a waste of time as its only common sense.
I think 1 day a year is not to much to ask and if any any driver does not have it done by September, well there is no excuse really.
