I don’t walk between the back of a trailer and wall - sensible.
I don’t walk between the back of a trailer and a wall even when there is no unit/tug on the front - irrational?
What are your sensible precautions that have become irrational habits?

When on a tyre break down and the fitter is blowing up the tyre, i stay well away, if it blows, the speed of debris coming at you will put you 6 feet under, there should be a portable metal cage to protect the road side tyre fitter.

I thank more awerenes than anything else.
Kind of BBS (basic behaverial safety)
I just try and put as many miles between me and any van driver my company employs who has keys in his hand
Lost count of the number of times that, before I clapped the red line, on I climbed down to double check that the brake was on.
self preservation
done the brake thing
always when standing by trucks always rest hand on one in case it moves
always checking the dog clip
I check the pin at least 3 times when hooking up and I always palm the handle with my hand as well. Strange really because I know I’ve got the trailer but I still do it.

always checking the dog clip
+1
Me too.
Not sure if it’s irrational or not but just before climbing in the cab, I double check clip/pin, lines and legs are set properly even though I have a set routine for un/coupling that I never deviate from.

Not irrational, just good practice. If every driver did this, there would be less dropped trailers
