does anybody know where to get a semi decent cheap laptop from for while i am out and about in the wagon (obviously not while I’m driving, I’m not a foreigner!)
needs to be about £500 but small enough to be able to hide it in a 7.5t when I’m doing that sort of work.
it would be more for playing champ manager during breaks than doing anything too technical on it and maybe Auto route as a back up of tom tom and maybe a bit of mobile Internet surfing. (looking at vodafone mobile Internet at moment)
any help appreciated
(i know this is in the wrong forum but no one looks in the computers one. do they?)
Shop around and for £500 you will get a decent laptop with a few quid change let alone a semi-decent one.Even at PC World you can get a decent one for about £399 and talk them into giving you a few extra goodies.
If you get one with wi-fi and a dvd player you will have almost everything you need, but in fairness these come as standard in most laptops.
So just shop around and get it insured, I got my laptop from PC world and for £9 a month (first month free) it’s covered for everything including accidental damage and water damage.
Get yourself into currys and ask for the Packard Bell easyone with a 17" screen its a duel core with 2 gig of ram and 120gig Hard drive ,web cam, wireless, and its dam fast tbh. it runs Autoroute perfect and all the films i have put on there.
I chose it because it aint one of the shiny one’s that get all scrachet up in half a second.
ive already got one of thse beauties for my old laptop. i dont want to lug a 16" screen laptop round though, not many places to hide it if doing 7.5t work. i think i might nip down to currys and pc world after the football then.

looks a bit old m8.
256mb of ram isn’t up to much.
a 20gb hard drive is nowt these days either.
this free one i’ve got that i mentioned earlier has nearly 1gb of ram and a 60gb hard drive. Not the highest spec laptop you can get by any means but more than the ebay jobbie you mentioned.
and if your smart enough search via quidco (register with them) and order it online and get a %cashback too.
I know the basic Dell inspiron range gets you £30+ cashback
I did my car insurance with more>than via quidco and got £75 back recently
which is funny as I was already an existing customer at renewal, but having done all the price searches etc they still came out cheapest, except I did a new business application online via quidco, dropped £50 off as new quote + the £75 cashback
