Anything you buy for use in the business.
Travel is 45 ppm for the first 10,000 miles and 25 ppm after that. Note you don’t get given the 45 ppm by the tax man as many people seem to think, you just don’t pay tax on that 45p.
Do your tax return online, it’s not difficult. During a period of self employment I was led to believe you must have an accountant, well if you employ others an accountant may prove his worth. I used an accountant once, charged me an arm and 2 legs. Thereafter I did my tax return online, it’s pretty straightforward and you’ll save a few hundred squids in the process. Others will say an accountant is worth the fee’s, you need to be earning a lot of money to justify the cost.
Tiger.

No you don’t, you can still do the accounts and submit them yourself if you wish. Plenty of software out there that will create the accounts in the format required for Companies House and the Revenue.
I went S/E last November and someone on here recomended
diyaccounting.co.uk/selfemployed.htm
So i bought it, about £12.99 +vat and have to say its been brilliant.
Give it a go. Dead easy. If you cant get on with it youy`ve only lost £15ish!!
I would say just don`t go mad with the claims, as some people will encourage you to do. Keep it simple and dont get greedy.

I keep re-typing stuff on this subject so often, I`m beginning to suffer from repetative strain to my typing finger
My first year I paid £180 for an accountant. That was to sort out three years of mixed self and PAYE so worth it. Since then I do it on line - easy peasy. HMRC get a lot of stick but their web site is pretty good I think.
