Self Employed vs PAYE

little off topic, but does anyone have a link to where I can find the pros and cons of self employed vs PAYE when it comes to HGV driving or perhaps an opinion?

Tried to search for it but perhaps I’m using the wrong keywords as I couldn’t find a topic. Cheers

I’ve moved your post to where I think it will receive more views and possibly get you some answers.

I was a Ltd company for 4 years and it was good while it lasted for me, pick and choose the work when you get yourself known, potential to earn £1000 a week the odd weeks of tou find the right work. Don’t be afraid to cancel work for more paying work as the agy will just do the same to you when there isn’t any work or when their mate needs work or such like.

Liability insurance is a must for when working directly for companies incase of any mishaps.

Look up ir35 as it could be the end for most Ltd companies.

Pros for me were, taking time off when I wanted or needed being paid that little bit more so I could save for my mortgage, being able to do different types of work instead of being stuck in the same mundane work.

Cons were no holiday pay no sick pay and not 100% knowing where the work was coming from but to be fair it was only the last 6 months of being ltd that was rubbish , work totally died off over xmas and didn’t pick up till may and by then I’d had enough of chasing the money and took a job where I’m better off!

If I had no ties I would of definitely of jumped on one of the European tour companies and done that tho

Be warned: the traffic commissioners and the inland revenue will only accept you are self-employed if there is an element of business risk on your part.

Unless you’ve got your own truck and/or the right to send another driver in your place, its unlikely they will accept you are self-employed.Being self-employed depends on your circumstances, not your choice.

And that’s from the Repot of the Traffic Commissioners published in November last year.

Expect a clampdown this year.

Thanks guys sounds a complete nightmare to do nowadays especially with the IR35 coming this year if it wasnt hard enough they’ve just made it 10x harder. Will stay away. Cheers [emoji106]
