My mate Pete (who lives in the golden triangle) has turned his back on his long term HGV Class 1 employed agency driver job (Earning about £375 for three days work). He’s just spent nearly £3000 to train to learn to be a car driving instructor. He seems quite happy to be self employed as a driving instructor because he’s been told he will make ‘good money’, but said he wouldn’t even consider being self employed as an HGV driver because its too much hassle. So what’s the difference?
I would have stuck to driving
and used the spare time for leisure
HGV’s are BIGGER than cars
He will and can make good money as a car instructor but he will have a lot of unsociable hours (evenings and weekends) to do so.
I know people that have done exactly the same. It all depends which lifestyle suits the best I suppose.
Would imagine it’s a lot more hassle being a self employed truck driver.
I wouldn’t mind being an hgv driving instructor but wouldn’t know where to begin to look on ‘how to become an hgv instructor’
Is the car Driving Instructor market still as flooded as it used to be?
I know of a couple who started under the Red franchise and have struggled like hell. They’re still doing it but they’re far from earning a good living.

Become a civvy instructor at Leconfield, they train you.
