Self defence and unmarked police cars

I’ve just sent an email to lancashire police HQ.
I want to know what the likelyhood of getting charged with an offence would be if a thief broke in to my truck when i was sleeping, Put a knife to my throat or a gun to my head then i killed him.
I pointed out that they sometimes get in to the cab with keys cut by RDC staff while they are loading your trailer.

I also want to know what our position is with unmarked police cars.
If we stop for them. We may get a ticket. If it’s a fake police car we may get shot.
I have informed them that i do not intend to stop for unmarked police cars as there have been far too many hijackings. So it would be a much better policy to ban the use of unmarked police cars when pulling hgv’s.

I will probably get a political style reply. Lots of waffle surrounded in ■■■■■■

Or what sort of reply do you folks think i’ll get.

My guess is that as soon as Beverley Bell hass finished her cornflakes and thumbed through commercial motor she will log onto trucknet and read your post.

She will then give Jackie Spliff a bell and after discussing who she thinks is the ■■■■■■■■ truck net member (probably thecoder0) will get down to how they can weave these ideas into Gordon Browns plans for transport in the next house of commons debate on transport ,before finally agreeing the best way forward to become legislation and the possible arming of all truckdrivers with tazors and blades depending on the truckers personal preferance.

im guessing that just as the Chief ■■■■■■■■■■ of lancashire is about to tee off at his local golf club this morning his mobile will ring and it will be Jackie Spliff asking him if he has logged onto trucknet since last nite cos Lmeyphil would like some answers to a couple of pressing questions before he tops someone next week

i would like to apologise for my misspelling of Constable in the above post the censor chucked it out :unamused:

  Excellent

I’d be surprised if you got one at all,

Why might you get shot though. Not heard of any truck hijackings whereby the driver has been shot?

Unmarked police cars are never going get banned. The police advice is if your not happy that the vehicle in question is a genuine police car, you should drive to the nearest police station. Where i would imagine if its not it will be long gone.

I could be wrong on this but I seem to remember that if an unmarked police vehicle wants you to stop and you are not happy with that then you can follow it to the nearest police station… I await an expert on this matter… SHREK :exclamation: - where are you…

It always worries me about being shot,

By the Police

Greg.

I didn’t say ban unmarked police cars. I said ban them from pulling HGV’s.
And i hope the first driver you hear about getting shot or shot at is not yourself.
Have you never heard of a driver being held at gun point? The difference between the driver being shot, or not being shot is called a trigger.

Ok lets be picky then,

Unmarked police cars are never going to be banned from pulling over HGV’s If there is a reason to pull you over then it is not going to be ignored simply because there in a unmarked car. I think you will find that you will only be pulled over by an unmarked car if you have done something in the first instance.

I doubt very much ill be the first truck driver to get shot to be honest, What do you carry thats worth getting shot for.

Yes, heard of and met truck drivers that have been hijacked, and what do you know they didn’t get shot. Probably though because to be hijacked at gunpoint is still very rare still and as you intelligently pointed out the firing thing (the trigger was it) was not pulled .

Drivers also tend to give them the truck too, afterall it is replaceable isnt it so why risk your life for it.

Unfortunately its not a rare thing now to have any vehicle stolen by any means however using a gun is not very common. At the end of the day they will take it no matter what you do.

we used to carry a large card that said
I WILL DRIVE TO A POLICE STATION PLEASE FOLLOW ME
and were told under no circumstances were you to follow them cos they could lead you anywhere.
if you are really worried it is permissable to use your mobile phone whilst driving as the incident could be classed as serious if you think its either a bogus police car or an intended hijack. dont be fooled just cos they seem to be wearing "police " type clothes either.

Not wishing to get into the wider debate but in answer to you question above and taking into account we live in a world where people are killed on the streets of this country for the contents of a ■■■■■ or are stabbed for living on the wrongside of an estate then lets say a container full of cigarettes or nintendo WI,s or 26 pallets of ipods or container of whiskey or or or or…I could go on but all of the above are very high value loads and if you don’t ,I do know people prepared to take them from you whatever it takes if the rewards are right

A lot of us on here I guess have carried such loads and used the card system to let any suposed police car that comes along side that you will only be diverted to a police station

usually an unmarked car will not pull you over from behind usually they come along side attract you attention then then move to the front of you and put the stop board on… if in doubt hit the 999 then explain your situation and give the reg number of the car trying to pull you

Now that is good advice

Exactly my point coder0 i know that some very valuable loads are carried but that just what hijackers are intrested in, Your load, not you. so why put up such a fight whereby you may lose your life, load’s insured, let them have it, you live. No matter what your carrying, is it really worth more than your own life, i think not.

Yes, because if it is a real policeman, he will call for helicopter support, 15 other cars and a stinger, to stop the lorry driver who he saw using a mobile at the wheel.

The fake policeman will either bugger off or shoot you
