secure parking

Looking for secure parking over next weekend, anywhere between cherbourg and bourges?

Watch out for immigrants around Cherbourg, my French planner was saying that there has been a lot on the news about the problem moved there from Calais.

Heading down to bourges from calais mate, wasnt goin to stop in cherbourg, just wanted to know if thers anywhere heading down, but will keep my eyes open on way back

Dieppe has the immigrants too,as for parking on the way down, any Rouitier network of truck stops are safe, and great value for the drivers menu from 7 to 13 euros for a five course meal, and get waited on by surly staff.

Yep, as the man says you probably won’t go far wrong with a routiers on one of the nationals, provided you’re a safe distance from the Channel ports, but if you’re really set on parking in a secure location here’s a list of the those currently operating here in France:

Good point,i have never had diesel stolen,a trailer slashed,or the cab broken in to in France, they see the Chauffeur poids lourds as kings of the road, the car drivers respect us there,no two fingered salutes or hand gestures like the one from Gareth Hunts tv advert to offer some coffee beans.
As soon as i come off the ferry in the uk,within a few minutes,i get some abuse of some sort,on the roundabout,or some trivial annoyance to a tourist or car driver.

Personally,if you have the hours to get there,I would head for the Routiers at Deols,by the airport at Chateauroux. Open 24/7 excellent food & good showers & large parking. I’ve had many a convivial weekend there & you’re only about 60kms from Bourge monday morning. Bourge centre routier is okay but not open sundays or saturday evenings.

Failing that if you’re coming across the 85 from Tours, join the 71 sthbound,1st slip onto A20 then very next slip onto the old N20 nthbound for Salbris and within 10kms you get to La Loge, excellent & very friendly routiers on the right with parking both sides of the road, very quiet at night & routiers open all weekend. Try the salade du Berry for a starter, excellent!!

There’s another 7 day routiers a short way down the A20 near Gracay too,you see the large neon sign just before the exit. Again very friendly & monsieur le patron speaks reasonable English too if you don’t fare too well in French. Beware though as he seriously likes his drink, :smiling_imp:
