Secrets of your missing mail

New Channel 4 programme on 29/4/13 at 21.00, about damages to parcels in hubs with an undercover camera, should be interesting to watch that.

Used to work for a parcel company and a few others as well as pallet services through agency. Nothing surprises me however I do know to pack stuff I send as if it needs to survive a nuclear bomb.

The pre-view for the programme records workers kicking boxes, and they are filmed throwing parcels off the conveyor belt in fits of anger and annoyance.

Set the Sky+ for that. I’m working at Royal Mail on Agency, have been for the last 6 months. Cracking job and I love it. Hope I’m not on it!

Not always their fault maybe as I’ve just discovered that my gas bill has been sent to a place around the corner from me with no explanation and the energy supplier does not supply that address so go figure

It’s 8 pm on Channel 4 on Virgin

8pm on sky too

I swear i saw an APC van in the background in one clip

Get it sent to you via email and pay on-line if your supplier will do that.

Could be any of them to be fair, how else to people think it gets done

DPD discipline anyone caught treating packages badly. they want the customers to keep coming back so getting their deliveries to the correct place in good condition is high up on the priority list. accidents happen when the cages arent packed properly and stuff falls out but mishandling packages is a big thing for them. they wont tolerate it

When I was on for RM at Normie you could help yourself to any amount of letters or parcels if you were that way inclined. They use to check your seal as your departed from there, but they were never checked upon arriving at the Donny rail head and I could’ve stopped and emptied the trailer enroute if I’d wanted to. It was a real eye-opener for me and from that point forwards I’ve always sent anything above a modest value via Special Delivery.

Do they not go in the same trunk trailers then?

Well possibly, but even as someone who has never worked in RM, surely the fact they are scanned in and out at each point of transfer would make a bit silly for the person accepting responsibility at any given stage to then allow it to vanish :unamused:

Yes, they do. Special Delivery are tracked and insured though.

Anyone who’s worked for RM realises that the only way to safely send anything important/valuable is via Special Delivery.

When I worked at Sheffield Mail Centre I saw drivers steal mail and deliberately drop items marked “fragile” on the floor to try to break them. Most people in RM are ok and believe in getting the mail delivered but there’s a few w*nkers who think it’s fun to mess things up.

To be honest, I’ve never seen anything like that. I’ve only worked there for about 6 months but I’ve never come across it.

i had a word with my postie the other day about him leaving parcels inside my front door. he thought i was going to give him grief for doing it but i wanted to thank him officially but without going into details (i know he isnt meant to do it) but apparently they are only interested in bad things, not praise :unamused:

i have said hi to him a few times so i dont really know the guy but i think someone who does a good job (in my eyes) deserves the gratitude for it. ok it makes his life easier to not have a parcel to hump around all day but he is looking after his customers too. fair play to the guy
