So by a miracle you’ve been asked to become the new Secretary of State for Transport. What would be the Top 5 things you would change to hopefully make things better?
Here’s my Top 5;
Maximum height limit for a vehicle of 4m.
50mph speed limit on major single carriageway roads for trucks up to 44 tonne.
Charge foreign trucks £25 per day to use the UK road network.
MGW of 25 tonnes inside the M25.
Have 75 truckstops built at strategic points around the country with spaces for 500 vehicles minimum.
I await to be shot down in flames for my suggestions but, would love to hear yours…
BAN ARTICS. LEFT HOOKERS, SLEEPER CABS, REDUCE GVW TO 28 TONNES, BRING IN 35 HOUR WORK WEEK , BAN TRUCKS OF THE ROAD AT WEEK ENDS…Wait till I get me ! TIN HAT
1 Step up the repair of all roads.
2 Bring in legislation regarding the use of agricultural tractors on public highways.
3 Reduce the numbers of foreign lorries entering the UK.
4 Subsidise fuel prices for hauliers.
5 Abolish all tolls on bridges and roads .
The only problem with cutting daily limits is that most of us can only just live comfortably on max hours now.
So with reduction of hours you would need to increase minimum pay.
I realise the only way to do that is upping the cost of tins of beans etc but then I don’t buy cheap crap as I know that’s just supporting low paid drivers.

5.ban trucks from the road and show the public how important they are .cos after a week when tesco is shut the ■■■■■■■■ would be screaming to get us back on the road

2: Speed limiters upped to 60 not 56 to appease the onion suckers.
3: 8wheelers MGW increased to 35t
4: 6wheelers increased to 28t.
5: Re-introduce the 3x15min tacho breaks.
all hgv drivers to show mechanical competence before getting an hgv licence.

1.) 50 mph on Motorwa,40 mph on Dual carriage ways and 30 mph on Single Carriage Ways
2.) 4 Meter max High for Vehicle on the Road
3.) Saturday,Sunday and Bank Holiday no HGV on the Road
4.) Prayer before entering a Vehicle and proof for visit of Sunday service at your Local Church
5.) No Driver with Weight over 60 Kilo permitted to drive a Vehicle on the Road
Build a big yard at Dover. All foreign freight, can then only be transported in Britain by Uk hauliers.
And more rest areas. That’ll do. Where do I sign?
Car test to be graduated as per Bike & LGV, all non-LGV/PSV road users to rsit Theory test and have a driving ‘appraisal’ every 4 yrs, All pushbike riders to sit a full theory test and pass a ‘cycle’ test before being allowed on public roads.
Compulsory FREE medicals and eye tests for all road users every 4yrs.
All planners to have to go on at least 1 days run per month (to be chosen by a drivers committee), and receive a kick in the groin for every minute in excess of the ‘planned’ ETA.
Limiters to be set to 60mph, limits for LGVs to be 50mph on SCs, 60mph on DCs & M’ways.
All revenues from Road Fund licenses and Vehicle Fuel Duty to be ring fenced for roads maintenance.
