Hello to you all,
Knowing that you are all experts in giving an answer to questions posed, does anyone know this vehicle or its past history?
It came past me on M6 Nortrhbound this morning at about 7am. It is a Scania 8 wheeler vrn Y784OPV. Nothing strange so far, however it is fitted with the Scania lowride Municipal cab (the one they fitted to their dustcarts that sits low down in front of the axles). As it went past me, i could see that to the rear of the cab was a Hiab crane and flatbed body which seemed to sit very high off the ground (or it might have been cos the cab was so low down). The cab also had a “recess” set into the roof and rear cab wall.
This made me think, was it originally a crane chassis that has subsequently been re-bodied, or was it built this way as original?
If any of our truck experts can help, I would be very interested,
Ed
My guess is that it was probably built for a Council so that a full crew could go out in the cab to do road maintenance of some sort. We have a similar Dennis around here that is ex Anglian Water, with the dustcart cab,a lockable tool shed,a biggish genny,a Hiab with a clamshell, then a small flatbed body which usually carries a couple of tonnes of blacktop to the job then carries the spoil on the way back.
It sounds very similar to our last lot of ISU vehicles.
Ive also seen this lorry coming up the M5 one morning ,although i didn’t see the crane ,i think it was carrying steel.
Unlikely but it could have been an aerial platform with the fire service. Not many with low cabs, but Essex has requipped with ALP’s with that cab design.

At least they look better than these ugly Iveco Magirus monstrosities.

I seem to recall Ipswich Borough Council having Low Cab Scania dustcarts on a Y-plate and OPV is an Ipswich reg!
Seen a curtainsider with a municiple cab in Poole a couple of times recently - looks well weird!
