Se5000 tacho's

Hi all.
I am curious to know if a: the proposed movement sensors on these units have been fitted and if so what form do they take ■■ And b: did the proposed deadline of October 2012 get met ■■

I know about the 1 minute rule and 250 locks etc , but can find very little info on the movement sensors. Is this a deliberate ploy by the authorities to catch people out ? Or as I suspect never quite made it.

Bloke on my last CPC course said they were using the ABS sensors to detect movement?

The ABS sensor will show movement however on it’s own it is not enough to confict you, if they see movement then they will delve deeper into your movements ie ANPR cameras etc

Not quite what I was after .
The latest tachographs to be fitted to trucks as of oct 2012 were meant to be fitted with some form of movement sensor. I’m interested to know if this deadline was met & if so what form does it take.

I believe what you’re referring to is a new independent motion sensor that works in conjunction with but independently of the original motion sensor.

I assume they are now in operation but I’ve no idea how they work.

As far as I can make out it will put a stop to the use of magnets (sorry Phil ), but I’ve no doubt that some smart arse will try to find a way to fiddle them

Just wait for the rumours that you now need two magnets

By the way, at the risk of being a bit pedantic the thread title is a bit misleading, it’s not just the Stoneridge 500 tachographs that’s affected, it’s the 3rd generation tachograph as directed by the EU regulations so all makes will be affected.

I’ve no idea exactly what happens but I believe the new generation digital tachograph is supposed to be magnet proof, in fact as far as I know the only difference from the second generation tachograph is better security.

Fair point. Wasn’t really sure how to title it.
So they are in use then ! I would say there are plenty of people unaware of this, should make fun times for vosa.

all i will say is dont fit a magnet too the new version mercs as a person i know found out, he tried it and it didnt work but it did show up on trucks memory when it went in for it’s first check.

I think you’re probably right about that.

I’m not sure but I think it was geebee45 who mentioned these changes some time ago, but to be honest I’d completely forgot about it until I saw your post.

I should think those people running properly bent with digi trucks will be well aware of the new tachos and those people who fit “magnets” to run over by an hour to get home are the thick ones who that have no idea what their doing, as pointed out by scotstrucker!

I bet these new tachos still cant detect whether the person at the wheel is the same person on the driver card in the slot!

Bent running is still going on, more than alot of people think, could well be happening at the company you work for, but you wont know, as it will be kept on a need to know basis…

I completely agree. And it’s a “friend” of mine who I would not describe as the sharpest tool in the box, but I like anyhow that I am going to put straight tomorrow. Cos the daft idiot thinks he’s immune and is heading for a fall.

i am suprised they have not used gps within the tacho to monitor movement aswell as abs/gearbox speed sensors

Tacho has no input from ABS.Input is from gearbox pulser.

Tow a truck with prop removed and tacho shows no signal to be logged. With ignition either on or off.Spin the front wheels on a tractor on the brake tester and the tacho shows nothing spin the rears and driving without card comes up,only difference is that the gearbox is being driven by the diff (sometimes/sometimes not due to diff drag or a sticky caliper)

yes he is heading for a fall, 1 fall already happend as he got sacked, the next fall is he is charged and awaiting court, the next fall after that will be a chat with the tc with no tea and biscuits. to make matters worse vosa are investigating the firm he worked at and all that because the numpty thought he was clever.

yeah bent running is still going on but it aint as bad now as it was a few years ago. just think how many cameras (i dont mean the speed ones either) you pass in a day, shop window cctv, street surveliance cctv, apnr cameras, specs cameras, police car cameras, motorway cameras and the good old silent check has ofton turned up the odd fiddler.
but some drivers are starting too sit up and take notice since the english courts started jailing drivers for tacho fraud but it’s only going to be a matter of time before they start court orders too claw back the money the driver made by breaking the law but only when this happens will drivers sit up and take note and think twice about running the wire, pulling the fuse, magnets, stretching seals etc etc.
