not me
No excuse not to have a daily shower.
At a MSA it takes 20 mins to have a shower from getting out cab, walking to shower and getting back in cab again. Some of them are really good showers too. Not telling any of you dirty scruffs where the good ones are though, don’t want you dirtying up my clean showers.
No excuses!!! Just fat lazy lorry drivers…
Some you see down the road are simply dirty disgusting tramps.
If you have a particular dirty job you just simply slip on a pair of overalls… It’s not hard …most Trucks these days have loads of room for a change of clothes everyday, but some of these fat dirty tramps fill the cupboards with crap food…
Joe public only ever see the fat Pervy dirty Lorry driver, don’t they…
I put on some blue overalls to do a dirty job once and another driver asked where was my cloth cap and starting handle?
I saw the funny side, and guess which one cried to the planners about getting dirty?

Yeah He’s dirty and you’ve got a bad attitude, sounds like a great company to work for.

Thankfully these individuals are in the minority, the problem is the public have one stereotypical image and it’s the one above, no wonder we get treated like scum.
They must live alone in a hovel, there’s no way er’ indoors would like me loose smelling/looking like the above.
I drive a tipper but always have clean clothes on no excuse for looking like a soap dodger

Which bit of trampers don’t you like?
you’re right to have an opinion, they’ve a right to be a tramp!
containers_only:
as a professional container driver for the last 4 months i’ve worn shorts, tshirt and trainers
I’ve been to plenty of delivery and collection points where you’d not get on site with trainers.

Same here go matalan sports direct pick up t shirts and jumpers cheap enough.
Primark T shirts £2 each, I just throw them away when they get stained/grubby.
One of our drivers has been named “The Stinx Effect” because of the foul odour that haunts any cab he’s been in. Those large air fresheners normally found sitting on toilet cysterns have been placed in various trucks, but I don’t think the penny has dropped. No need to come to work in any driving job stinking like polecat but for Gods’ sake, we deliver flour to places where people eat.
“Stinx” the new fragrance, coming to a bakery near you…
the fact is there is no excuse for smelling or looking scruffy end of argument people that turn up for work as scruffy as others as said are simply lazy ■■■■■
yea ok you finish your shift you have a bit of grease on your cloths from tri swaps etc but to turn up for a shift with grease stained cloths and guts hanging out is just pure lazy and dont deserve a shift
Would rather have some “scruffy [zb]” who had the faintest idea how to drive than some of the “pretty boys” who come into our place and have about as much idea as a chocolate fire guard.
And guess what these “pretty boys” did before they decided to be “truckers”?
Yes Corporal you got it!!!
splitshift:
HaHa,Where my son used to work they gave a “scruffy driver” money out of the petty cash float ,gave him one of the office girls Matalan card & told him buy your self some polo shirts & trousers,:
Well they should’ve been providing him with work wear in the first place, I get polo shirts, fleece and a coat, were I’am at the moment, the sooner they provide trousers the better, wont keep wrecking my own jeans at work then, that really annoys me. I dont think its acceptible to be unwashed, but unless a firm provides work wear then they’ve got no argument about the state of a drivers clothes. This aint no office job, its a dirty job, even on containers.
Though I say its unacceptible to be unwashed, I only shave on a Sunday night, and thats perfectly acceptible in my book.
ps If I’d have been your son I’d have said “wheres my clothig allowance then” cant have one rule for and all that
Juddian:
You never see really scruffy slobs directly employed on well termed and conditioned jobs, says it all.If someone looks like they have no pride in themselves or simply can’t be bothered, it doesn’t take much imagination to assume they take a similar pride in the job or doing it well, hence i refer you to the above.
A well made, simple and obvious truth.
I can’t remember the last car transporter driver I’ve seen who didn’t look clean and tidy. It’s not as though they spend their days in Tesco waiting rooms waiting to be tipped either…
W
I don’t get uniform or clothes /boots/ hivis allowance & have to fund these myself. The quality in the clothing is not good these days &after about the third wash , the polo shirts start looking ‘tired’.
I’ m a’hands on ’ person & get on with the job, so I tend to get covered in grease (unexpectedly! ), mud , water, rust, dust , & anything else the elements of the job throw at me including getting soaked to the skin, I always carry a change of work clothes, and take the opportunity to get cleaned up if needs be.
It is important to be presentable , it gives a good impression of both you as person and your company.
And it’s not nice working with a smelly person.
I f you were for example delivering food stuffs and turned up filthy and stinking, would the recipient start wondering if this food stuff was coming from clean premises and a properly controlled environment!, & maybe they would start looking for another supplier!
Putting the boot on the other foot, if you went to eat out , whether it be a chippy , take away or somewhere posh, and the server/ waiter was covered in ‘all stained / marked sorts’, & half dressed , & stinking & sweaty, would you start to wonder about the food you are about to eat !! Or would you go somewhere else!

You are right in what you say above, but its not the same as this job. I might not be to concerned about a “tramp” for want of a better description delivering a load off bricks, but if he was to deliver food stuffs, especialy fresh food, then I would expect him to be clean and hygenic, I would also assume that his employer supplied his work wear, and would be concerned sbout his employers attitude, if his employer didnt provide the right PPE for the job, its not just ADR that requires protective clothing, I used to deliver fresh hanging meat, my firm supplied me with several sets of whites (overalls) food type dispoable hats, and white welly boots(nice). to all intense and purpose the meat was handled in the same way all through the chain, as the customer would expect.
As I said in an earlier post, its down to employers to provide the right clothing. and its down to the driver to get a shower from time to time

Unfortunately, some MSA’s are now charging for the shower if you’re not staying overnight. I hope they are going to upgrade the showers to make them worth paying for…
