Depends on the brand really. A knackered DAF will get scrapped when a Scania in the same state might get repaired.
Just like cars really, if they have a following and re sale value you fix them up.

Don’t see many on the road at 10 years old and I’ve driven trucks with well over 1 million km on by 6 years old when they’ve been de-hired. Usually as long as they’re running and moving they end up being shipped to the Middle East, Africa, South America where they continue to be used.

Half our fleet is 10+yrs old still using paper charts.
Your correct about the KM’s though, my 2008 unit is over 1,000,000 and one of our other units which is a 2010 is only 100k off.
We scrapped a few 2000-2004 Dafs in the last year but a few weeks ago managed to sell an absolute shed Scania 470 Topline on about 980k to someone. It was so bad it struggled pulling an empty cattle trailer up a hill the last time I used it.
We’ve had trucks at 1.5million Kms that don’t get scrapped, they get pumped over to Africa to do another 1.5millions kms probably
The youngest lorry in our fleet is 2008!
The oldest is an S plate, so 97/98. Still going strong. It was only about 10 years ago we scrapped the B reg leyland freighter. That was only due to rust, the engine and box were fine.
Look at most old trucks on the road still, most are scania and volvo.
Built solid and last,my old 2003 volvo felt more solid the an the 63 man we had on hire once…ten years newer and I couldn’t wait to get back in the old Volvo…drove better quieter and more comfortable and no rattles

We got rid of our 02 reg Daf CF back around Easter. It’s been bought by another OD.
AS SOON AS IT IS OUT OF MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY. And I meant to shout. No good to man nor beast these days.
accidents and driver abuse are the only killer of a bedford
I worked for a frozen food wholesaler in 2006 and he still had mk1 cargos , stormont trucks were asking him for spares for their horsey customer

A few months back was looking at an absolutely mint F16, 24 years old and very low mileage. It had sat around unused for years but kept in a warehouse in Spain, didnt look as if it had ever seen a wet road. Air suspension long wheel base 4x2, side skirts, polished alcoas, sunvisor, perfect leather seats ect, beautifil old Volvo…
a company i used to work for bought 3 new volvo fm 6 wheel tippers in 2001,they are STILL the newest trucks they have,i have seen the L reg fl7 they have still on the road in the last year!!! i rebuilt its engine after a million plus ks about 12 years ago?
There is a small haulage/sand and gravel supplier near Stratford on Avon (Webbs of Armscote) that still operate Merc SK tippers. They have an L reg 6w that I believe is on its’ second cab, second engine and has recently had its’ second tipper body fitted (Grandads’ axe job). All their trucks are immaculate, and forgetting their puddle jumper, their newest truck is an 18t R reg SK.
Cleavers have just bought some 54 and 05 reg Foden Alphas from Smiths, one of which was sold as a scrapper, and have put them both on the road.

Berth 43 (iirc) Southampton Docks - rows of tired old lorries and knackered trailers ready to begin a new life elsewhere along with plant, excavators and buses. Dragged or driven onto ships - interestingly some of the loaders were women - fair play I say.
still quite a few 20+ y.o. 143 Scania’s about…can’t see any of our fleet of CF’s lasting that long.
reddens in Wellingborough are still running an e reg e series ERF and a g reg e series ERF, plus an x reg 8 wheel ecs ERF, and whenever I see them I haven’t got my phone with me for a picture.
