I had VVT 554L new in '73,and parked her up in '74 before moving on to Brit European to start my m/e career,so I couldn’t say who drove her after me.
The sister one to this was I believe driven by the late John Taylor junior,RIP.
As I was on the owner/driver scheme perhaps the new driver was on the same scheme as there were some outbased drivers doing it.
The second pic was found and posted on here by one of our colleagues but I don’t know when it was taken so I’ve no idea when “The Vicar” disposed of her.
I can’t rate it highly enough as the best driving truck of the time, probably better to live in than the legendary F88.The ONLY downside being a non tilt cab.
Hello again,heres todays stuff.
Cheers Bubbs,
Hiya…there was a 2600 daf sitting in a chaps garden just outside of Ripon on the road to the A1 m.

Hi 3300John, that location looks like the same place where “many” years ago was parked an old mk1 Atki and ERF tractor unit just as you said rotting away, the story was a retired owner driver ■■

Hi both, I had the honour as an 18 year old of visiting his Auckenlech depot (or farm!) - me old man was doing a few runs for him in a yellow & red Renault Turboliner 4x2 & (- with a horrid blue interior!) & a fridge. Dad had his Ford Sierra up there, and having just wrote off my Metro, needed some wheels! Jumped in with him on the hard shoulder by Stafford Castle as he went back up to Ayr to swap trailers & brought the Sierra back. One hell of a drive for me as an ankle-biter!

Cheers Bubbs,
Hi Bubbs.
Wasn’t this one parked on a farm just outside Perranporth?
If this is the one i’m thinking of,does anyone know what happened to it?
I used to drive past it regularly until a couple of years ago and it looked in fairly sound condition, far too good to be scrapped but all of a sudden it disappeared.

Cheers Bubbs,
I know Scanias and Volvos were the vehicle of choice for most drivers and were far more fashionable but for a 1979/80 vehicle, this cab took some beating IMO.
Hi Dave, yep dead right mate, the Foden was just outside of Perranporth…nice old girl

Indeed it is, I remember driving one of those for K&M, 8-leg powder tanker. It had had a problem with the gear linkage at some time in the past and part of the bonnet cowling had been cut away. In the middle of winter I drove with the window open, very cosy, not something you could often say with English wagons of that era. Glad I didn’t driver it in summer though.
I notice that its owner, or driver, had done what I did with my old Morris Commercial reccer - stole the west coast mirrors from a Ford D-Series.
I see that the position of the flashers isn’t original but can’t remember where they would have been. No chance there though in leaving it on by mistake, especially at night, it would have been blinding.
Another thing that strikes me is the angle of the steering wheel. Almost horizontal. I remember sitting very high up in the cab peering out from just under the top of the screen, but ideal for getting right over that wheel with plenty of leverage to haul it round. I often wondered how taller drivers went on in those days, it was a common driving position, but I remember that tall people are normally long in the leg rather than in the body. I’m 5’6" and a colleague at work in later years (not a driver) was 6’7" and would give me a real neck ache standing alongside, but seated in a vehicle we were almost the same height.
anybody on here got any pictures of a blue ford d-series wrecker reg no:NOP127F ■■
Hiya… managed to do a little better ,this is only of google earth theres 2 volvos and the daf what you can see.
the usual thing never had my camera with me, i have been past 30 or so times as we had a collection in ripon.
