Hi Bubbs,

Love the SoM AEC,very nostalgic!

Keep 'em coming,

Rgds,

David

I’m with 5th Wheel on that one - the SoM AEC with the four-in-line is an absolute classic.
Remember those Whitbread’s Dennis’s too - nice chocolate brown weren’t they?

Quality as always Marcus!

Would this split screen model be as a result of AEC using different cab suppliers or might this one be an early Park Royal cab prior to the full screen coming out? Cheers Dennis.

Hiya…Dennis this cab was usually on a four wheeler…monark and twin steer mustang and the light weight mercury
artic but with a one peice screen. the mandator homalloy/park royal and RTS cab was split screen. It just seems
odd not been a single screen

Might it have been a “cut down” rigid then John? Cheers Dennis.

That Mercury was reg’d in Stirling C C in Dec.1960,so she’s not an old model.I can’t add anything different from what 3300 John said, just seems summat out of place for a Mercury unit.Shell Mex and BP bought a lot of Mercury units with single axle tank trailers but I’ve never seen one with a split screen.
'appen I’m not old enough to remember… :sunglasses:

Aye,I reckon it’s been re-cabbed Dennis.I don’t have access to it’s details either, just a book full of old reg areas.
And no,it weren’t me at Langness slinging Clarkson’s fence into the sea. It’s gone on too long this shi* about a few yards of private footpath. The people responsible are bobble hatted green twa**,some ex UK,some Manx, who have nowt better to do and I wish they’d go home and have a beer or two, instead of bloody plotting their next moves in local pubs, and leave J C in peace…tha knows.

Hi Bubbs, I’ve borrowed one of your early pics for the Smiths thread so here’s one in return from an era of interest to many of your viewers;

I wonder what one of those would be advertised for in CVC classifieds in that condition?

What engine and gear box would the little Foden have had in it Nathan? and would it have been 14ton GVW? Cheers Dennis.

Hiya…in my book i’d say 2 stroke foden deisels with a 5 speed box. secondley a 5 cylinder gardner and 5 speed
box.I would think a 12 speed would be out of the question been to heavy on 659 which is the newest

hiya,
Fourteen tons gross 5 speed box and and a 5 pot percy would take the arm dexterity of a concert violinist to whizz the gear stick about when running on anything other than downhill.
thanks harry long retired…
