Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

Courtaulds was a big concern. They had British Celanese at Spondon,Derby and also British Cellophane at Barrow and Bridgwater as mentioned.Nearly all the solvents I picked up at at Spondon went to either Barrow or Bridgwater. They had a big place at Coventry as well.
The Nypro plant at Flixborough near Scunthorpe which had an explosion in 1973 made “caprolactum” which was shipped to Northern Ireland where Courtaulds had a factory manufacturing nylon - I think it was at Bangor but not certain.

The Nypro plant went off with a bang, not sure about Bangor :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember the PVC film manufacturer in Wigton as British Sidac, presumably from the French; The Société Industrielle de la Cellophane. I do remember the hill which often gave me some grief with a slack lift tank and an F7

Bangor - bang,aye ok Malc.
I went to that Sidac place at Wigton once and didn’t they have a place in Sent 'Elens,as Eddie Waring called it?

Hiya Trev-H… was the courtaulds down that long lane off jct 12 turn right there was a low bridge
at the other end A 449. Good little pub on that corner quick walk from the ■■? transport cafe.
was that a courtalds factory next to the sun set or just a warehouse?? loaded for Paisley a few times
from their when i was on general,so there must have been another courtaulds in Paisley,
right next to the river. That ties up with Mayfield Yarns nr Ashbourne that was the same outfit.
John

Hi John,
Croda was down that lane with the pub on the corner , The four ashes( a frequent watering hole for me, Banks beer!) and it also had another entrance off the A 449 nearer to Gailey, that plant I think was once Midland tar distillers. The Courtaulds factory was in W-ton itself near to Alddersley stadium.

Been in Four Ashes to Midland-Yorks Tar distillers - used to be the haunt of MRTS in olden days.Another place there was Midland - Schnectady which I think was part of the old Tar Distillers plant. Not been in there since 1975.

Trev_H:
Courtaulds also had a big place in Wolverhampton as did Croda.

When I drove for T. bradys we also did all the pulp into Courtulds at Spondon Darby that was a big factory Bradys had some drivers trained to tip the pulp.
Steve.
